It is never bad to triple check! Providing you have either a 1-1/4 inch Class II or 2 inch Class III trailer hitch on your 2004 Nissan Pathfinder the Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike Rack # TH934XTR will work well. This bike rack will carry up to 4 bikes with a combined weight capacity of 165 lbs. I have attached a brief installation video showing installation on a 2013 Pathfinder.

Please note that this carrier provides a 13-1/2 inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the upright bar on the carrier. If you have a hitch on your pathfinder you can measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle to confirm this rack will clear the bumper.

If you need a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt # 13088. This is a 2-inch, Class 3 hitch and has a 500 lb tongue weight rating, which is substantial and enough for any hitch mount bike rack.

If you plan on carrying either women's, children's, or alternative frame bikes I recommend the Thule Adapter Bar # TH982XT. This adapter bar connects between the seat and handlebar posts to provide a level mounting surface to mate with the carrier arms and will keep the bike level to provide proper ground clearance.

If you want locks to protect your investment the Thule Snug-Tite Lock # THSTL2 works on both 1-1/4 and 2 inch hitch mounted racks. This will lock your bike rack to your hitch and also provides an anti-rattle function. The Thule Cable Lock # TH538XT will lock all of your bikes together on the bike rack. If you would like, these two items can be keyed the same with Thule One-Key System # TH450200. This set includes two lock cores which you can use to switch out on your two locks and only have one key that will work on both locks.
