How to Pick the Correct Brake Assemblies and Bearings for 2006 Forest River Grand Surveyor Trailer
Question:
I would like to buy trailer brakes and bearings from your company, but I want to make sure I buy the right ones. My trailer is a 2006 Forest River Grand Surveyor GS240BH. It has two 3500 pound Alko torsion bar EZ lube axles with 10” brakes. Based on my research on your site and the very helpful questions and answers, I am pretty sure that it would take the standard Dexter 10” brakes, part numbers 23-26 and 23-27, nuts 6-17 and washers 5-8. I have never done the bearings myself before, but the shop that replaced them a couple years ago recorded the bearing kits as part number 50246 1 and 3/8inch X 1 and 1/16 with bearing numbers L44649 and L68140 on my invoice. Based on the size, I’m pretty sure that was a mistake and they meant to record L44649 and L68149. They have also used seal number 5604 over the years. So, I’m pretty sure that your complete set BK2-100 would work, and the double lip seals would be the 10-19 or part number RG06-050. I also believe that replacement caps for the EZ lube spindle would be part number RG04-040. I would appreciate it if you could confirm these part numbers for me. Also, can you tell me if part number 290-991 works on the EZ lube caps, or does it only work on the basic caps the write-up on your web-site only lists the regular caps?

If you have 10 inch brake assemblies currently the # 23-26 and # 23-27 would be the correct assemblies to get. You might measure the bolt assembly that the brake assemblies mount to. The # 23-26 and # 23-27 has bolts holes that are 2-7/8 inches apart on center.
Since you are going to have to remove your hub and bearings anyway I would recommend you just remove them now to verify the bearing numbers that you would need, the numbers of the bearings will be stamped on the bearings. If you find that you have all the same components as the Bearing Kit # BK2-100 then I would recommend it for you. The Seal # 10-19 that comes in this kit is a double lip seal.
The Grease Cap # RG04-040 that you referenced most likely would work for you since typically these caps are on 2,000 and 3,500 lb axles. You will still want to measure your hub to be sure though. The product has an outside diameter of 1.98 inches.
I attached a video on trailer hub removal and inspection that you might find helpful also.
