Maximize Your Storage Space
Get your fishing rods out of the back of your vehicle and free up space for friends and other gear. The Yakima TopWater is capable of holding 8 fully-rigged fishing poles up to 8' long and is perfect for everything from basic spinning rods to fly fishing rods. If your poles are over 8' long, you can still carry them, but you'll have to break them down first.
Even when packed full of rods, the bottom of the carrier can be loaded with low-profile tackle boxes, a kayak paddle, and other gear to maximize your storage space. And if you're carrying wet gear, you won't have to worry about mold because the box has drain holes to prevent water from pooling.
The TopWater is not limited to transporting your fishing gear. The rod holders are removable, allowing you to use the carrier as a cargo box. Just remove the screws that secure the rod holders, pry out the plugs, and pop out the holders. Then the TopWater is clear to load up with sporting goods, trekking poles, the kid's toys, or whatever overflow you have from your vehicle. You would also follow these steps to reposition your rod holders for shorter fishing poles.
In addition to freeing up space inside your vehicle, the TopWater also saves space on your roof. Because it's only 18" wide, you'll have room on your roof rack to carry a kayak, cargo basket, or other gear.
Enclosed Carrier for Safe Transport
Made with pole protection in mind, the TopWater's enclosed design keeps your rods safe from the elements. The carrier also has built-in rod shields that act as a guide when installing your rods and protect them from damage when closing the lid.
To use the shields, place your fishing pole in the rod holder's padded grooves then slide the butt of the rod against the shield. Rubber retention straps and foam padding secure your rods in place.
Single-Side Opening Lid
Because the TopWater only opens on one side, but can be installed in either direction, you can mount it on the driver or passenger side. Support hinges on both ends of the box keep the lid open while you load and unload your gear.
Built-In Security
Whether you're out on the water or making a pit stop on the way to the lake, you won't have to worry about your gear being tampered with. The TopWater comes equipped with a Yakima SKS lock core that secures your gear inside the box. And since the mounting hardware is inside the carrier as well, you can rest assured that a would-be thief won't walk off with it. If you have other Yakima products and want everything keyed-alike, you can swap out the lock core (sold separately) to match.
Durable Construction
Made from durable ABS plastic, this sleek carbonite-textured box is lightweight yet rigid. At only 31 lbs, you won't need your fishing buddy to help you handle the installation.
Tool-Free Installation
This carrier clamps to most roof rack crossbars without the need for tools. After mounting the TopWater on your roof, guide the clamps around your crossbars then thread the bolts through the base of the carrier and the mounting plates.
Next, screw the plastic nuts onto the bolts, adjusting the tightness to secure the clamps around your crossbars. Once you've tightened everything, check that your install is secure by tugging the box and tighten if needed. The SmarT-Slot kit (sold separately) replaces the standard mounting hardware and lets you install the carrier in your crossbars' top channels.

works perfect. i use expensive tackle and 12 and 13 ft rods. very limited space in back of jeep for what i want to take to the lake. so this is perfect solution. hav run 80mph. 3 of my rods with reels fit comfortably and 4 is really tight. its more the size of the reels. i year now and no issues.

I have been using the yakima topwater rooftop fishing rod carrier now for 1 year. This has been a game changer for me especially on long fishing trips. My rods stay safe in the case on my kayak trailer, while allowing me to stow gear in the bed of my truck without fear of damaging my expensive poles. I ordered this on a Thursday afternoon and it arrived Saturday. Some of the fastest shipping I've seen, Thanks Etrailer! The box looks to be high quality and should hold some extra things besides the 8 poles. I'm thinking of life jackets and maybe your raingear. Mounting looks to be simple with padded Ubolts and wingnuts. I'm mounting this box on my Malone Microsport Kayak trailer. I'll update you with pictures within the next week. Also, Etrailer matched a lower price I found with no issues.

Easy to install - easy to use! I've carried 9 large baitcasting combos, 3 with 300 series reels and they fit with room to spare. Using neoprene rod sleeves helps keep everthing protected.

Looks good so far. Only mounted once seems very secure left / right and front / back/ has a good bit of play lifting from the front upwards left / right. This seems to be due to the only mounting point is in the center of the box. Time will tell.
