Trailer Hitch Recommendations for 2019 Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
I've got a new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. What are my hitch options and how visible are they from the rear of the vehicle?

For your Crosstrek, there are Class II and III hitches available. Because the Class III has a much larger selection of hitch mounted accessories available, I'll recommend going that route especially because the cost difference between a Class II and III usually isn't very much.
Essentially, we have three different hitch styles available for your Crosstrek. Fully exposed, partially exposed and fully concealed.
If you want a good hitch, and don't particularly care whether the hitch is visible or not, the Draw-Tite # 76209 would be a fine choice. Next, there's the Curt # C13382 Class III hitch. The only part of the hitch that is visible would be the receiver tube and the safety chain loops. The hitch crossbar will be tucked up behind the bumper out of sight. The EcoHitch Stealth, part # 306-X7365 is a good deal more expensive, but this hitch features a removable receiver tube. Once the receiver tube is removed, the hitch is completely invisible. With the receiver tube in place, it looks much like the Curt hitch mentioned above. If you aren't terribly fond of the look of a hitch on your vehicle, this would be the route to go. I've provided photos showing how all three hitches look when installed.
If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll need a trailer wiring harness, part # 118467. You'll also need a ball mount and a trailer ball. I'd also recommend a ball mount kit, part # 989900 which includes two ball mounts, a 2 inch and a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball and hitch pins.
I've linked to install videos for each of the hitches as well as the wiring harness I mentioned.
