Recommended Gooseneck Hitch to 5th Wheel King Pin for Horse Trailer and Short Bed Truck

Question:

So I purchased a horse trailer out of state. I have a 2003 Silverado 2500hd w/6ft bed and a b and w turnover gooseneck hitch. The trailer was advertised as a 5th wheel, however it seems to be a semi trailer style as the kingpin doesnt come down and out like a travel trailer 5th wheel. . I think they converted it from a gooseneck, and I would ideally converted it back, but just need to get it home first . Looks like my pick up has 19.5inch bed height, and the kingpin is mounted directly to the trailer. Any thoughts on what to use to make sure the trailer clears my bed, and I have a decent turning radius? Open to all options at this point. Thanks

For your 2003 Silverado 2500 with 6 foot bed and gooseneck hitch, I recommend the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall # CAB-C5GX1216. There unfortunately isn't a better option for the offset you need for best turning clearance and you may still have some restrictions based on the placement of that king pin. The Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs # DM8550045 is a great option if you only need a 3 inch offset for turning clearance, but it appears you will need more. I've attached an article to assist.

When you get to your conversion, I recommend using the gooseneck # BD0233100300 and then the B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler - 2-5/16" Ball - 10" Offset - 24,000 lbs # BWTEXA4200 to give you the additional turning clearance.

You could alternatively add a pin box like the Lippert 1621 # LC1387883 or Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter # RP85FR which would require custom mounting.

Another option is to use a gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter like # KPG5-R25 but this won't give you any offset for additional turning clearance.
