Bully Digital Brake Controller TC-301 Shows E3 Error
Question:
Just installed a bully tc-301 into an 06 f150. Used factory wiring plug. Wired as instructed. Unit seams to work but when not connected to a trailer i get the code E3 all the time. Is this normal? Is this going to drain battery?

According to the owner's manual for the Bully Digital Brake Controller TC-301, if there is a red light flashing and the display shows an E3 code then that means there is no trailer connected. Therefore, since you don't have a trailer connected I would not worry. However, if it still does this with a trailer connected then you will need to check your connection to the yellow wire. It should not drain your battery flashing E3.
If you wanted to test the brake controller to see if there was an internal issue you would sever the yellow wire and then check for 12 volt power with the brake controller turned all the way up and with the manual override applied. If there is not 12 volts then the controller is bad and it will need to be replaced for which I recommend using the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller part # 39510 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3065-P.
