Troubleshooting No Power at Curt Connector on Chevy Equinox Only When Connected to Trailer
Question:
I have a 2018 Equinox that has a Curt C56375 trailer connecter installed in it. The place for the signal light relays have no wires to them but it has a relay from the factory next to empty spots for signal light relays. The trailer plug works fine when nothing is attached power to both signal lights I hook up trailer and power goes away stops working on signal lights, unhook it and power comes back. I rigged up my test light to test power at connecter when trailer wiring is connected to find this out. Trailer works fine on my 2017 Traverse. Do you know if the cars ecm has to be programmed to account for the extra load on signal light circuit? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56375 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2018 Chevy Equinox as long as it has the factory tow package. Some models of the Equinox do already have the needed factory relay for the signal lights and in these cases the included relays simply aren't needed. It sounds like this is the case on your vehicle.
I am not aware of any programming that needs to be done on your Equinox in order to account for the power draw of trailer lights when hooked up to the connector. I recommend making sure that the white ground wire on the harness is securely connected in place both on the Curt harness and with your factory wiring. Also inspect the connector on your trailer to see if any debris or corrosion has built-up inside the pins, cleaning as needed. You can do the same on the vehicle side connector but since it is brand new this shouldn't be an issue.
The harness itself features a maximum of 7.5 amps per circuit, which should be enough for most trailer light setups. If you have a lot of incandescent lights on the trailer though, you will want to make sure that you aren't exceeding the amperage rating of the harness.
If you still aren't able to resolve the issue please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
