T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2014 Ford Flex

Today on our 2014 Ford Flex we're going to be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with he four pole flat trailer connector. Part number is HM11140275. Now this is what our wiring kit's going to look like when we pull it out of the package. You can see we've got the inline connectors here. These are going to plug right in between our factory connectors so we won't have to modify the wiring in the vehicle at all. Runs down the yellow and brown's going to come from the drivers side while the green comes in from the passenger side. That signals going to be sent right out to our four pole connector.

This is going to give us right turn and brake, left turn and brake, and running light signal. Also we've got a ground there that's the white wire. We'll be grounding that underneath the vehicle using the provided self tapping screw. They give us a dust cover since our four pole wiring is going to be outside of the vehicle. That's going to help protect it. We'll also apply a little bit of terminal grease there as well as on our connectors to make sure we don't have any corrosion build up to anything like that.

We've got our instructions there, a couple zip ties to help us tidy up anything we night need. This is a really simple straight forward installation that you can easily do at home. Now the first thing we want to do is open up our rear hatch here. We're going to pull these taillight housings out. To pull those off we use our 8 millimeter socket, just back them out and we'll set them aside. We're going to be reusing these later.

Then we need to gently kind of pull out on that housing. We've got a couple pressure clips over here on the edge we want to separate. Open that up, we'll see the plug right there we need to disconnect. Going to press in that tab right there on the top, set it aside and do the same thing on the passenger side. Now we're going to be bringing our wring up through this opening here. I'm going to use a pull wire, this is air line tubing but it's not a very common thing to have around your garage.

Just a coat hanger, stiffer piece of wire, whatever you got will work out fine. If you look down you'll see a little air gap down there, a little opening. That's where we want that to go through, see we can pull that down right this way. Now we'll tape our connectors off to that line. This is going to help us to guide it up behind that taillight housing. We might have to kind of as we pull, just kind of guide it through the small opening there but shouldn't be any problem. We'll just pull that on up through here, take our pull wire off of it. We want to grab our dielectric grease, we're just going to put just a little dab on. Plug our harness right into it. Hear a little click and then you should be able to push, pull without it separating. Little bit of grease on this side and that's going to be plugged right into the back of our housing. Now we pop that back into position. Once we have those two alignment tabs in place, those two push fasteners in place we'll resecure it with the bolts. Now I'm going to bring my wire across over the top of the exhaust hanger there. It's going to give us a good place to get a zip tie put around, that'll keep it up and out of the way so we won't have to worry about it making contact with the exhaust itself. Then you bring in that over. Of course we want our four pole plug to be right here around our hitch so we can just tuck that in here for now. Our yellow and brown wire, we need it to keep going over towards the drivers side. Then again we'll secure that on the top side of that exhaust hanger on that metal bar that comes out. Now we can feed our pull wire up through the top there from the bottom and we're going to get that yellow and brown wire pulled up. Now we'll get our connections made over here and we'll be ready to put this taillight housing back in. Now our ground wire we're going to be securing right up to the bottom of the vehicle here into the body. Quarter inch bit driver's what we'll need to do the job. Get our hole started first. Once we've got that started we'll add our ring terminal on to it then secure it down so that it'll be nice and tight. Just want it to be secure enough so you can wiggle it around. Now for securing our wiring what I like to do is use the dust cover. This is just going to slide on and bring that cap right around our hitch, slide it back on. Then we won't have to worry about it kind of bouncing down the road behind us or anything like that. To test our our wiring we're going to use part number I26. It's just going to be a basic four pole tester. Start with our running lights, our left blinker, our right blinker and our brakes. Now with everything working as it should that's going to complete our installation of the Hopkins plug in simple wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector. Part number HM11140275 on our 2014 Ford Flex.

The Draw-Time trailer hitch went on without a "hitch". The process of ordering the correct components (hitch, wiring harness and 4 pole plug mount) for my 2016 Ford Flex was nearly effortless with only one call to clear up one concern. etrailer's videos that were vehicle and product specific made for a great experience. Thanks

It was easy to install and after 1 year works like a champ. No problems what so ever. Great quality. I would recommend to anyone. Thanks!!!

I installed this wiring harness myself and it was pretty straight forward. It is truly a plug and play system. I hid the wiring the best I could and I used my own zip ties as the ones supplied with the harness weren’t long enough to wrap around my hitch bracket. I also used a plastic wiring protector near the flat connector. After testing the functions of all the lights with a tester I doubt I will have any problems when I connect this to a trailer. I’m happy with my purchase!

very easy to in stall

Works as expected. Very easy to do with little knowledge and mechanical skill required. I found it to be the best alternative as I was considering having U Haul employees install a harness for me. But their price was triple this wire harness costs, no one at U Haul made me feel comfortable with leaving my auto in their custody. Simply put I did not want U Haul to make me a problem. I am impressed with E trailer and the absolutely professional handling by all their representatives. Thank you for keeping American DIY trailer wiring harness installers Great !

Thanks for the harness. The part was delivered a day later than expected, but in plenty of time for my purposes. The instruction video was particularly helpful, the installation was fairly straightforward, and everything worked the first time out the gate.

Based on my experience, I'd definitely recommend etrailer.com to anyone! Thanks again.

  • Difference Between Wiring Harnesses for a 2009 Ford Flex
Yes, you are due to the power draw from the trailer. The dedicated 12v line that comes with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56343 pulls power from your Ford's battery to operate the lighting functions on your trailer. This harness will power both incandescent and LED lights without having any issues like blinker's running faster. • Trailer Hitch Receiver, Wiring and Ball Mount for Trailer Towing With a 2016 Ford Flex
I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75679 for your 2016 Ford Flex. This is a class III 2" receiver that is capable of 400lbs of tongue weight and towing 4,000lbs. Be sure to consult a Ford dealer for your maximum towing ratings on your Flex, and do not exceed those ratings. The etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 will give you 2 separate ball mounts so that you can use the one that will best level the u-haul motorcycle trailer. It also includes a 2" ball and 1-7/8"...
