Roof Rack and Assisted Kayak Carrier for Truck Camper Shell Recommendation for Easy Loading

Question:

Hi, Im looking for a way to somewhat more easily load this 90 lb boat on top of my 02 Toyota Tundra. It has a Leer cap on the back which I am willing to drill holes into. I pull a travel trailer so cant always just hang it out the back. I have an old Yakima round-bar roof rack but with the cap on the back its impossible to get it up there without a crane. Would prefer a one-man operation as my wife isnt all that strong.

I think your best option would be to get a TracRac CapRac Ladder Rack for Camper Shell/Truck Cap # TH29200XT
for a roof rack system that will install on your camper shell.

Then for an assisted kayak carrier the Thule Hullavator part # TH898 would be your best option. It lowers down on the side of the vehicle to make loading and unloading the kayak very easy.

What would be the best set up for carrying two kayaks on the roof top of a 2019 Jeep wrangler 4 door sport. The bars and kayak kit. The roof is rated at 150 lbs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Starting with the roof rack I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex System that consists of parts # RRVA150B-2, # RRVA-FK1-2, # RRRL110S5-2. Then for the carriers themselves, I like going with a separate J-style carrier on each side of the crossbars for easier loading - 2 of the etrailer # e98878 will work perfectly.
