How to Convert a Trailer with Combined Taillights to Separate Taillights

Question:

Hello, Do you know if this will work with a 2011 Ford F-350? I want to wire in side marker/turn signal lights to my 5th wheel. I had tried a different brand and it doesnt work at all like advertised, but I also noticed it does not have a ground wire like this Curt item does. I also do not know if it is a 2011 Ford issue, as I think the directional are now controlled by a body computer. Thanks for any help. Duane

If you are planning on converting your trailer from having a combined tail light system where the turn signals and brake lights are combined to a separate system where the turn signals and brake lights are on separate bulbs this Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter, part # C56196, should do the trick.

This will wire to your trailer onto the tail light circuit between the 7-way and the tail lights.

From the 7-way you will run the green (right turn/stop) wire to the green wire on the input side of the # C56196, you will then run the white (ground) wire from the 7-way to the white (ground) wire on the input side of the box. Finally, you will run the yellow (left turn/stop) wire from the 7-way to the yellow wire of the converter box.

On the output side of the box you will have three wires that are run to three different locations.

The green wire will be run to the right turn signal, the red wire will be run to the brake light signal, and the yellow wire will be run to the left turn signal.

Once hooked up you will have a trailer that has separate taillight functions that will work when towed by your 2011 Ford F-350.

I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out.
