Where to Attach Brake Controller Red Wire on a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Question:

have a customer who wants a brake control installed on his 2017 Golf Alltrack. Normally, theres a wire connected to the brake pedal that sends a signal to the brake lights. But not on this car. Any idea where I can find a brake light wire on this vehicle?

If the stop light circuit or CHMSL (center high mount stop lamp) circuit on the 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack are the only things that are on the associated fuse you could use a fuse tap in that location and wire the brake controller red wire to it. It has to be a dedicated brake light only circuit though.

Another option is to tap into the combined brake light and turn signal wires on the trailer connector, which I assume is a 7-Way since they want a brake controller, using converter # C56196. On this converter the green input wire will attach to the combined right turn and brake light wire, yellow is for combined left turn and brake light, white is the ground.

On the output side you will have the red wire for brake lights only. The green and yellow output wires can be capped off and stowed out of the way. The red wire could then be attached to the brake controller red wire.

You may also be able to get a brake light only circuit from the vehicle's body control module but I couldn't tell you which wire and which harness it would be. If you have the shop manual for this vehicle then that would help.
