Because your 2009 Ford F-150 has a 5-1/2 foot bed, you will need a Sidewinder extended pin box to replace the pin box that is on the trailer. You will need to determine what model pin box the trailer uses and then compare that to the available Sidewinders to see if there is one that will fit. I have included a link to the Sidewinder main page for you to view.

If you find there is a Sidewinder that will fit, you will then need a stationary 5th wheel hitch. I recommend the Reese 16K, # RP30047, which is most like the slider you have referenced. For an installation kit, you can use installation kit, # RP30035.

You will also need to take some measurements to make sure you will be able to safely make 90 degree turns, even with a Sidewinder. To start, the center of the hitch pin jaws will be 1-1/2 inches forward of the centerline of the rear axle. Measure from that point to the cab of the truck (measurement A). Add 22 inches for the length of a Sidewinder arm to measurement A.

Next measure the width of the 5th wheel trailer overhang and divide by 2 (measurement B). Take measurement A (plus the 22 inches) and subtract from it measurement B to get the amount of clearance you will have. You will need at least 4 inches of clearance to safely make 90 degree turns.

I have included a link to the installation instructions for the installation kit as well as a link to our FAQ article on Sidewinders.
