The Ram OEM 5th wheel puck system, shown in the linked photo and article, was launched in 2013 so what you have in your truck is likely to be an aftermarket installation of some kind. These newer Ram trucks with the factory prep can directly accept a specialized 5th wheel hitch such as the B&W # BWRVK3600 or the Curt # C16545-16021. Such hitches drop right into those factory pucks, allowing you to completely remove the hitch for a clear bed when necessary for cargo.

Without seeing the set-up in your truck I cannot be sure of what you have. You can certainly send us photos of the bed and the underside of the bed - which may show aftermarket components that will help us determine what has been done to the truck.

A sliding hitch actually isn't recommended for models that feature the Rambox setup as they just won't provide enough clearance. Really the only way to safely tow a 5th wheel trailer with your Ram is to use a fixed hitch and a rotating pin box on the trailer that will push back the pivot point behind the bed. For your Ram 3500 the Curt A25 # C16180 along with the Base Rail Kit # C16430-204 will work great. If you can tell me what model pin box is currently on the trailer I will be happy to recommend a specific Sidewinder model to replace it.

I own a conventional 5th wheel hitch that locks into the rail system on my present truck. I am thinking of purchasing a 2019 dodge with the puck system installed. Is there an inexpensive adaptor to use my hitch with the puck system

For your 2019 truck with OEM pucks, you can use the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter # DM6099. This is currently the only option we have for an adapter. Depending on the hitch you currently are using, it may be a better option to upgrade your hitch or some hitches have the replacement leg option for direct compatibility without a separate adapter. I've linked a page to compatible hitches to help. If you let me know your current hitch I'll look into if there is another option or if the current adapter is your only option at this time.
