Installing Additional Brake Light to Mount on Kayak that Overhangs Trailer

Question:

2013 honda ridgeline with 7 blade tow ready connector - PWC trailer with flat 4 pin connector and lh/rh combination lights incandescent. The trailer will be used to haul a large kayak with almost 4 feet of over hang. I would like to use #STL59RB to hang on the tail of kayak when transporting during darkness. I would like to replace trailer connection with male 7 blade connector and add 4 pin connector pig tail on trailer side. I dont know if this is feasible. Will the tail light converter #118158 work? Can you please draw me a schematic with the required parts to make this portable harness? Thanking you all in advance.

First, to replace the 4-way connection on your trailer with a 7-way, you can use the Pollak Black 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End # PK12706. You will just cut the wires on the existing 4-way and splice them into this connector.

Then to add the connections needed on your trailer to use the Optronics Thinline LED Trailer Tail Light # STL59RB as a portable option for use at night, you can use a vehicle end 4-Pole Flat connector like the Hopkins # HM48035 that will come off from the 7-way on the trailer. Then you will use a trailer end 4-way connector with lead wires like the 20 foot Optronics # A20WB. This will plug into the vehicle-end 4-way on one side and the wires from the other side can be run to the rear of the trailer for connection with the LED Trailer Light. You will install the Tow Ready Tail Light Converter # 118158 along these wires to split the brake light circuit back out.

During daylight hours when you do not need to use the additional light, you can simply disconnect the 4-way connectors on the trailer.
