Will I Need to Use a Slider Hitch while Towing a 2011 Crossroads Cruisers CF305SK 5th Wheel

Question:

My RV dealer says I do not really need a slider with this hitch he has a used RP30047 for sale. We have a 2011 Crossroads Cruiser CF305SK, which has the front of the RV cutaway to allow more of a turning radius. He has towed our RV with his truck with the same 6-1/2 ft bed and says it will be fine - just be careful when backing. I know there is a lot of controversy about this. Is there more I need to know to make a decision?

There is a formula you can plug the measurements of your 2011 Crossrads Cruiser CF305SK and your tow vehicle into determine if you can execute a 90 degree turn or not.

Here it is:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab

B = Distance pin box is out in front of the trailer

C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

If you plug in the measurements of your truck and your trailer and you end up with a number that is above 4 inches of clearance you will not need to use a slider. However, if you end up with a number lower than 4, you will not be able to execute a 90 degree turn without using a slider.

I attached a link to an FAQ page on fifth wheel hitches below that you might find informative.
