Troubleshooting Height Issue with 5th Wheel Hitch and 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have this hitch but my GMC 2500hd has 21inch high bed and the companion hitch is 16inch therefore I can not turn very sharp. I have damaged my upper bed fenders several times. Also damaged due to unlevel ground with trail mashing down on bed. Does BandW make Pivot Arms longer?

B&W Companion hitches adjust from 16-1/4 to 18-1/4 inches, so it sounds like your hitch is on the lowest setting and can be adjusted for 2 more inches of clearance. B&W unfortunately does not make longer pivot arms. You may be able to lower the pin box on the mounting bracket of your trailer as well. There really isn't any height adjustment options outside of these, so you may need to consider a different hitch altogether that has a higher vertical limit if this doesn't solve your clearance issue.

If you end up needing a different hitch, I recommend using the Curt X5 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches - 20,000 lbs # 16310, to adapt your B&W gooseneck hitch to above bed rails. I then recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3255. This hitch will give you a 19 inch max height. That will give you an additional 3/4 of an inch clearance over your Companion hitch which may not sound like much but could make a significant difference.
