Tire Blowouts on a 20 Ft. Boat and Trailer with 5.30-12 Load Range C Tires

Question:

I am shopping for boat trailer tires sixe 5.30-12 LRC 80psi. Just experience a blowout while traveling with RV and towing my 20 ft. boat trailer and am looking for good quality. Looking online I saw some bad reviews on Carlisle trailer tires which I was considering. Then noticed your site and am wondering how do your tires compare? Appreciate your help,

Expert Reply:

Most trailer tire blow-outs are due to heat build up from an under-inflated tire. Trailer tires have a thicker side wall and when under inflated the thicker side wall generates more heat faster and can cause the tire to fail. You should always inflate a trailer tire to the max psi rating indicated on the tire. Always use tires rated for trailer use. They will have an ST in front of the size.

I have linked an FAQ on trailer tires.
