Can Lippert Components Power Tongue Jack # LC285318 Mounting Plate be Rotated
Question:
How can I rotate my LC285318 jack either at the head or mounting bracket? It has a triangle base plate that is not equally spaced that should have been an obvious manufacturing error, so it cant be turned easily. I cant use my tailgate and Ive read others that cant open their rear hatches on SUVs. Can I buy, or make, an adapter for the base plate? Can the head be rotated on the post? I, as well as many others, need a fix for this!

The Lippert Components Power Tongue Jack # LC285318 uses a standard 3-bolt a-frame type mounting scheme. It is designed to be installed in a specific orientation with the point of the triangular mounting plate facing the tow vehicle as with most of the similar a-frame jacks shown on the linked page. This is not a manufacturing error. It is not possible to rotate the upper head portion to face in another direction.
It is certainly possible to have a piece of steel plate welded on the trailer frame in a position that will allow you to move the jack rearward where it will not interfere with opening your tailgate. A local trailer shop should have no problem doing this for you. You'll want to be sure the install is done by a qualified welder.
