How to Install a 4-Way Trailer Connector on a 2007 Suzuki XL7
Question:
Mounting the hitch should be no problem, but the wiring could be. I found an empty 4 pin connector ABOVE and to the REAR of the jack that might work? I can send a photo I took of it if that would help. Otherwise it sounds too complicated and if it didnt come from the factory with the plug installed itd void the remainder of my 36 mo/36K miles and 7 yr/100K miles warranties.

If your 2007 Suzuki XL7 has a factory tow package, then you can use the Curt T-Connector Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # C56012. The location point you have described sounds like the correct connector, jack storage compartment on the driver's side. This harness includes the necessary fuses and relays so that the harness will work. I have included a link to the installation details below.
If you end up needing to use Draw-Tite Wiring, # 119178KIT, you should not have to worry about voiding the warranty. There is a federal law that states that unless a failure is the direct result of the installed item, then your warranty cannot be voided. Installation of this harness is not very difficult.
You will just need access to the wires behind the taillight assemblies. Starting on the drivers side, attach the white wire to an existing ground point on the vehicle frame. The yellow wire attaches to the left turn signal wire. Using the included circuit tester, find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the left blinker. The Brown wire attaches to the running light wire. Find the wire that carries a constant signal when the vehicle lights are on. And the red wire attaches to the brake light wire. Look for the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. Then you would route the green wire to the passengers side and attach it to the right turn signal wire. Find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the right blinker.
