TorkLift SuperTruss in SuperHitch

This SuperTruss hitch extender is specially designed to work with your SuperHitch trailer hitch (sold separately). Like most products from TorkLift, the primary purpose of this extender is to help create a towing setup that fits perfectly with your truck bed camper system. Not only will you be able to extend your trailer hitch receiver out far enough to clear the overhang of your camper, but you will also maintain a high enough weight capacity so that you can tow your trailer.

Heavy-Duty Towing with a Hitch Extension

Most hitch extensions dramatically reduce the towing capacity of your hitch setup, making it difficult to tow a loaded trailer over a certain weight. The SuperTruss, though, creates such a sturdy connection with your SuperHitch trailer hitch that you can still maintain a high weight capacity. To get the highest capacity possible, use a standard weight distribution system with the TorkLift towing setup.

The SuperTruss uses both of the receivers on your TorkLift SuperHitch to ensure a sturdy, secure connection. The solid shank of the extension's top tube slides into your top receiver, and the extension's lower compression tube installs in your bottom receiver. Each tube is held in place with the hitch pins and clips that were included with your SuperHitch. The connection between the extension and your hitch is reinforced with 2 sturdy steel collars that bolt around the tubes of the SuperTruss.

To give you absolute peace of mind, lateral support chains connect to the hitch and the extension on either side of your setup. Just attach one end of each chain to the extension and secure the opposite end to your SuperHitch. Then tighten the chains with the integrated turnbuckles. These chains not only provide extra security to keep the extension in place in your hitch, but they also transfer some of the weight back from the extension to your frame-mounted hitch.

How to Determine the SuperTruss Length You Need

If the camper is mounted on the truck:

Measure from the face of the truck's rear bumper to the outside edge of the camper's bumper. This is the length of the extension that you need.

If the camper is not mounted on the truck:

1. Measure from the inside of the front of your truck bed to the outside face of the truck's rear bumper.

2. Measure the camper's overall floor length from the rubber bumpers at the front to the outside edge of the rear bumper.

3. Find the difference between these 2 figures by subtracting. The difference is the length of the extension that you need.

Worked perfectly for what I needed it to do!

by:

Perfect fit

by:

Excellent hitch and extension, really well built and easy to install. Needed this pull a 9000 lb trailer with a Polaris RZR in the back of my truck, and it allows me to do this with the tailgate down. So pleased with this product!

by:

As with the other review, I did not install this device as it turned out my truck was not designed for the stresses it would put on the frame. To 'beef it up costs' would have been prohibitive.
The item is still in storage in my garage.
So I can't write a review for a product I did not use.

by:

Have not towed a trailer with it yet but have it installed and looks like it will get the job done. E trailer is easy to do busy with plus fast shipping.

by:

I bought the super hitch too. E-Trailer is awesome! Everything got to my house quick and was east to install. I will be using E-Trailer for all my future needs.

by:

Product arrived on time and in good condition. Have not pulled with it yet but maybe complete setup this afternoon. Heavy duty well built truss extension. Thanks

  • How to Carry Two Bikes on a Truck with a Truck Bed Camper
I do have an option for you but you cannot use two adapters together. The use of even one adapter would decrease the vehicle/hitches tongue weight capacity by 50%. This means that the weight of the two bikes plus weight of the carrier would need to be below 50% of either the vehicle or trailer hitches tongue weight capacity. If the vehicle's tongue weight capacity is lower than the hitches tongue weight capacity than this is the figure you will need to go by or vice versa. Instead, you...

  • Bolt Holes Not Lining Up for Torklift SuperTruss Hitch Extension
We are not familiar with the problem you're describing on the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extensions, # TLE1521. TorkLift makes their products here in the USA, but it is possible that your extension was made on a Monday. I spoke with my contact at TorkLift about the issue you have experienced with your extension. She confirmed that when installing the extension, the bottom bolts should be tightened first, then the top bolts. If the top bolts are tightened first, this can cause the holes...

  • Will a Hitch Extender with Weight Distribution Cause Trailer to Sway
Adding length to your trailer setup shouldn't increase the tendency of the trailer to sway as long as everything was done properly. If anything now the truck has more leverage over the trailer due to the increased tongue length. Usually it's shorter trailers that aren't sitting level or have improper tongue weight that are going to sway.

  • Is There A Hitch Extender For 2.5" Hitch With A 7,500lb GTW Capacity
Hey Eric, The hitch extenders that we currently offer for a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening unfortunately max out at 6,000lbs GTW and wouldn't be capable of towing the trailer. You're most likely going to need to upgrade to a TorkLift SuperHitch in order to use their SuperTruss extenders, like part # TLE1521 you were looking at. If this is something you'd end up going with then let me know the year of your Ram 3500 and I can look up the correct fit.

  • Why is Tongue Weight of Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM-071 100 lbs
The Roadmaster Hitch Extender part # RM-071 that you referenced is designed to be used only in flat towing situations where there wouldn't be hardly any tongue weight. This is due to the fact that the vehicle being towed has all 4 wheels on the ground unlike a trailer that only has one axle. It's not rated for trailer use, but it can be used when flat towing a vehicle up to 6,000 lbs. Even our most heavy duty hitch extenders like the Torklift Super Truss part # TLE1521 have lower capacities...

  • Hitch Extension for Use With Truck Camper
By extension that "uses chains to the corners of my truck hitch" I assume you are talking about an extender such as the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1521 which attaches like in the accompanying photo. The SuperTruss extenders that use chains are only fits for TorkLift SuperHitch dual-receiver trailer hitches so these would only fit if you had one of those on your truck. As for 18" hitch extenders such as the Curt # C45796, there are none we carry which use chains that attach...

  • Is there a 12 Inch Long Hitch Extender Rated for Towing a 10,000 lbs Trailer with a 2014 Ram 3500
The hitch extenders that are rated for 10,000 pounds are all for tow bar applications only so we have to take a different approach. If you have the factory trailer hitch that is welded onto your 2014 Ram 3500 then the best option would be to add TorkLift SuperHitch # TLD1108 and then use SuperTruss Extender # TLE1521. When using the SuperTruss extender you would have to then use weight distribution to get the capacity to 14,000 pounds.
