Recommended Dual Receiver Trailer Hitch for Extension and Weight Distribution Due to Truck Camper

Question:

hitch system for towing horse trailer behind 9ft cab over camper I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 which had a 5th wheel system, but we use the bumper welded hitch. This hitch is welded to a steel pipe bolted under bed of truck. I have been told I will need to install a super hitch system with wt. distribution which will result in a double receiver hitch system. Am I being given correct information and what should I expect to pay? Thanks

It sounds like you have a trailer hitch receiver already installed and need to add a second trailer hitch receiver for a double receiver to allow for the extension and tongue weight of your horse trailer. Because you don't have the factory hitch welded to your frame as you mentioned the steel pipe being bolted under your truck, you will need to remove the current hitch and replace it with the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - Dual 2" Receivers # TLD1101. This hitch will allow you to have your over cab truck bed camper and use an extension for towing your horse trailer with a weight distribution system.

For an extension, you will use the SuperTruss hitch extension compatible with both your tongue weight and length needs:

21 Inch # TLE1521
24 Inch # TLE1524
28 inch # TLE1528
32 inch # TLE1532
36 inch # TLE1536
42 inch # TLE1542
48 inch # TLE1548
60 inch # TLE1560

These extensions will allow you to use weight distribution systems and safely tow your trailer as long as you are within the weight capacities of the hitch, the extension, and the weight distribution system.
