Video Transcript for Thule Roof Rack Review - 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Today on our 2017 Chevrolet Suburban we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Thule roof rack kit. This is going to consist of the Thule AeroBlade Crossbars, part number THARB60, the Thule Podium Foot Pack, part number TH460R and the Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit for the Suburban, part number THKIT4041. The Thule AeroBlade Roof Rack kit allows you to carry roof rack accessories on your Chevrolet Suburban. This is going to allow you to carry bike racks, ski and snowboard carriers, cargo boxes or cargo carriers. The aerodynamic design of our crossbars helps to reduce wind noise and drag. If we move the end cap out of the way we can lift up our weather strip, which will allow you to accommodate channel mount and accessories.

That weather strip is easy to remove and replace and easy to cut down. This is going to be a fixed point application which will give us a nice secure fit as well as look. The fit kit and the clamp are going to have rubber coating to prevent any scratches or abrasions from our roof rack to our vehicle. The foot pack comes with a cover that has a plastic lock. That plastic lock core can be replaced with an all-metal lock core, giving a little bit more protection against theft and tampering.

The roof rack kit has a 165-pound weight capacity total though you do want to check your vehicle's owners manual to make sure it can withstand that much weight. All the instructions on how to install this are included. We'll show you how to do that now. To start our installation everything that you see on our table is included with our kit. We've got our foot pack assembly here.

We have our fit kit on this side, our end cap for our crossbar, all the hardware included with our fit kit and our foot pack and included tool. We've provided our own flat blade screwdriver just to help us take off the caps that are on our vehicle and to lock down our plastic lock cores on our end caps. To start off, we're going to put together our foot pack. We're going to take the rubber portion and the clamp of our foot pack and secure them together, making sure that the bent piece is bending towards the back of the rubber pad. We're going to flip this around.

We want to line up the holes here with the two holes on the plastic foot pack. We'll then take our bolts included with our foot pack. We're going to tighten those down. Once we have that tight we can place our foot pack and fit kit assembly onto our crossbar. We'll take our foot pack and slide it into the channel underneath our crossbar. Now we can take our crossbar end cap and place it on. Now before we load up our crossbar we're going to jump up here in our vehicle. We're going to remove our two caps here. Now with our roof rack system we have two different sets of holes. We've got our front two here that we're going to use. We also have two back ones. Now depending on where you want your cargo to sit you can use whatever holes you want to mount up your crossbar. We picked our front ones, but you can also use this set here as your front bar, and the next one is your back bar. To remove these we're going to take our flat blade screwdriver that we've provided ourselves. We're going to start to undo that. Once it comes undone a little bit you can use your hand, and it makes it a little easier. We'll repeat the same process for our other three caps. With all of our caps removed we're going to take our crossbar and load it up onto our vehicle. It might be a good idea to step inside our vehicle. We'll place this on our roof as close to the mounting points as we can get it. Now we'll fix our crossbar overhang. That's going to be the amount of crossbar that's hanging out over the side off of our foot pack. This you can either use a flat tape measure for, or you can measure it out yourself. Now that we have our crossbar overhang measured out we're going to secure our crossbar to our vehicle now. We've got those two spots that we emptied out. We took those covers off. We're going to take our included bolts that come with our fit kit and start to tighten those down. We'll use our included tool to do so. Now we'll repeat the same process for our other three bolts. We want to make sure that we tighten each of these down evenly. Now we can take our end cap, place it on. Then we'll take that same flat blade screwdriver and rotate the plastic lock core to lock that into place. Now we're ready to load up our accessories and hit the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Thule Roof Rack Kit for our 2017 Chevrolet Suburban.
