An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Works perfectly as expected. Took the extra bounce out of the rear-end when towing out 5th wheel.
It also keeps the tow vehicle level when fully loaded with 5er and all our gear.

by:

Not enough room to fit product into load area, ride was very uncomfortable!!! Need some space so empty truck does not ride on the overload!! Maybe wrong product

With Timbren springs the ride can be rough when the truck is unloaded. I see with your 2500 Ram that the spring will be in constant contact with the axle. I can recommend taking a look at part # SSR-312-54 from Super Springs which is rated at 2,800 lbs. It is made of a softer material which would improve the ride quality.

2022 Ram 2500

purchased for my 2022 Ram 2500 Limited 4X4. Once I got it in hand and did measurements it was obvious that with the weight I normally carry these would be engaged all the time and affect the ride so didn't get them installed. Also, on the Ram the right side was going to be a challenge without putting the truck on a lift.

I want you to be able to use the Timbren springs. As long as there is a 0.5 inch to 1 and a half inch gap between the rubber spring and the contract point on the axle when the truck is unloaded then they will work correctly for you. It is normal for the springs to be in constant contact with the axle when loaded this is going to give you the smoothest ride. It is actually when the truck is unloaded with springs on that you may experience a rougher ride.

by:

Very easy to install. One caution is to make sure you are on a very level spot. Even though it looked level when I started it wasn't and it made the gap between the Timbren and the axel pad look uneven. As soon as I parked on a concrete pad that gap was even. They don't come into play until I load my camper so there is no effect on ride when not loaded. I drove alot with the camper on last summer and there was no noticeable sway and the camper was level.

After a year of ownership and being able to tow a trailer over 20k miles I've really come to appreciate the simplicity of these progressive bump stops. I originally installed the bump stops that came with this kit but they were a little too harsh. After talking with Timbren directly they sent me a lighter compression ratio bump stop and they work fabulous. I use them on a 2021 Ram 2500 towing a 5th wheel with a tongue weight of around 2800#. My truck stays level and has a softer ride. Thanks!

by:

We have used timbrens on our trucks for yesrs and will continue to do so.
Great product with great results.

by:
2022 Ram 2500

I think I will be very happy with the ride when I tow our fifth wheel, it definitely needed the extra support especially on rough roads.I chose not to use the spacers because I like the softer ride when the truck is unloaded.

2020 Ram 2500

Spoke to a guy last time we were out camping with the same truck and he recommended Timbrens, so I installed them on my 2020 2500 RAM diesel. I did not use the 1" spacers, as we installed them with the camper (Hallmark popup) on the truck and the stops were already close to the axel. They've transformed the handling of the truck with the camper on it and I highly recommend them. Haven't driven it yet with the camper off, but fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, the package arrived on a Friday and the box was torn up and held together by rubber bands. No tape, just rubber bands (!) and the mounting hardware had disappeared along the way. I managed to call E-T before they closed but that wasn't going to get me the bolts before the weekend so I ended up going to OSH for some inferior hardware. Have since received the good stuff from E-T...

2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

I installed the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System on my 2019 Ram 2500. It was a perfect fit and was a thirty minute install. It does exactly what it is designed to do, enhancing the ride and stability while towing my 43’ fifth wheel. And without the trailer my ride is not affected at all. I highly recommend adding these if you tow or haul heavy loads. I have three friends that have purchased these since mine were installed.

by:
2020 Ram 2500

Ok, the drivers side was very easy to install. Maybe 15 minutes. The passengers side was another story, the rear bolt was very difficult to get at and took a great deal of time and creativity to get the bolt tight do to no room to turn the wench.
That being said it did improved the ride a great deal with no load, I drive country roads that are very rough , it completely stoped the wheel hop and provide a much better ride.
I would recommend installing these I’m glad I did! I would give this 5 stars if it were not for the passenger installation.

2015 Ram 2500

Excellent product! Went on in less than 10 minutes with a 15/16" wrench. Leveled the truck out under load and significantly reduced roll. Awesome bang for the buck. And etrailer service was spot on, as usual.

I still think these are an excellent alternative to bags and very cost effective. My only complaint is that on my 15 Ram 2500 I have to switch out the extra spacers when I’m not towing heavy. The axle and Timbren spacers make contact when unloaded and causes a harsh ride. The good news is that the extra spacers go in and out in minutes I don’t tow heavy very often. With the spacers in I am able to pull a 43’ toy hauler with little roll and excess bounce, an the truck sits fairly level

by:

Very easy to install and perform very well. Makes the truck handle well under heavy loads.

by:
2014 Dodge Ram Pickup

Took longer to read the instructions and clean then grease off my arm (which I got from rubbing against the lower shock mount), than it did to install. The drivers side is SIMPLE, the passengers side is a bit more tricky, because on the 2014 RAM 2500, the right side mount is directly ahead of the upper suspension torsion bar mount, so it's tough to get a wrench in there. I have a 15mm curved thin wrench, which worked perfectly! I've attached photos of both sides, so that you can see what I mean.

by:
2019 Ram 2500

Got them both. Installed. One issue with the right side. The bracket fit, but to tighten the rear bolt was a challenge to tighten it. I had less than 2in. to get it tight. So I had an old wrench that I just cut to the size I needed. All good.

by:

I love this option for load leveling and keeping our camper from swaying. This is the second truck I've installed these on. Super easy to install. Keeps the factory smooth ride unless you hit a big bump. When loaded, the ride is great. They take the bounciness out of the load. The only negative would be they're a little over priced for a chunk of rubber but otherwise I highly recommend these.

by:
2022 Ram 3500

Did exactly what I wanted...kept the truck level with my 5th wheel camper hooked up. Originally truck was not that bad but at night I was getting high beamed. Made just enough of a difference to eliminate that.

by:
2016 Ram 2500

Haven’t pulled the Fifth wheel yet, we’ll have to see how that goes. Appreciate your interest in getting our feedback. Installation was no problem.

I have always had a good experience with doing business with you

by:

A little more harsh on the bounces than I would like when unloaded. When loaded works as it should.

by:
2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

The installation on the drivers side went great. The passengers side I had to cut a 5/8 wrench in half to tighten one on the bolts. There was a bracket or brace in the way. My 2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman sits level now when I hook my 9000 lb. Tiny House on Wheels to it. SandD Stained Glass.

by:
2016 Ram 2500

Super easy to install and works very well when hauling heavy loads, less sag on rear of truck and more stability when turning, would highly recommend these for an alternative to airbags, as always great working with the guys from etrailer.com, have ordered several things thru them and am never disappointed, quick to ship and very helpful, customer service at its best.

by:
2020 Ram 2500

I have only given 4 stars because I have yet to drive any distance with them. Install was easy, I used a floor Jack to let the suspension drop. Did passenger side first as in other reviews it was deemed to be harder to change. For the passenger side I mounted the tambren after mounting the bracket. The driver side I put the tambren on and the mounted.

Service and delivery times are always g reat

by:

The item arrived and installed in under 40 min total. The installation was much easier than expected. Chose not to install the spacers per the suggested directions allowing a half inch to three quarter inch between the joist spring and rear axel. Was able to install without lifting the truck, doing both sides from the wheel well by simply reaching over and around the tires.

Dodge Ram Pickup

I've had these for a year now. They've made a huge difference when towing my 5th Wheel Travel Trailer with my RAM 2500 - the pin weight is less than 1500lbs, and total weight is about 12000lbs, however, in strong winds there was a fair bit of sway. This product took the sway out completely. I'd recommend it to anyone with the same problem, especially as a first step before spending excessively on other more expensive solutions that may not be necessary.

  • Will Removing Spacer Improve Ride Quality with Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement
It is typical to have approximately 1/2 inch of space between the bottom of the bumper and the axle. Removing the spacer will help to improve the ride quality. With the spacer gone, the distance increases to 1-1/2 inches, and will improve ride quality by giving the axle more room to move over bumps before contacting the bumper. However, by removing the spacer to improve ride quality, you will experience more sagging than if you keep the spacer installed. The # TDR2500D jounce springs...
