Today, we're going to be reviewing the Fattie Fat Tire Adapter Kit for RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Bike Rack, part number RKY1240. Now we already have our fat tire bike loaded up. With our adapter kit, we are allowed to carry 1 fat tire bike on our RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Bike Rack. The metal wheel brace from your adapter kit will replace the smaller wheel brace that comes with your rack but this still accommodates for those smaller bike tires. It includes 2 long ratcheting straps to add your existing straps for your front and rear tire. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. Our kit comes with 2 long ratcheting straps and our metal brace here.
First thing we'll do is undo our straps and then place on our extension. We'll then come to our other side and do the same thing. I'll come here and remove our cover. We'll set that off to the side and we can remove our brace. We're going to squeeze in here and set that off to the side.
We're going to mount the new brace in our holes on either side there. We'll take it, squeeze in the center and fit it into the holes. We can then take our cap and replace that and we're ready to mount up our bike rack. That's going to complete our review of the Fattie Fat Tire Adapter Kit for RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Bike Rack, part number RKY1240.

I bought these parts to retrofit a nearly new Rocky Mounts rack to accommodate fat bikes. For that purpose these parts suffice and are an easy conversion —-simply substitute the metal tire holder for the original, and throw away the original, since the replacement fits all bikes. The extension straps are functional, but I’d prefer if RM sold replacement, longer straps rather than splicing these things onto what’s already there every time a bike goes on the roof.
The Rocky Mounts rack, on the other, is my first and last one of those. Attachment to and removal from your roof bars are awkward, especially compared to most Yakima racks (the gold standard for me) that I have owned for decades. Both front and rear bar attachments of the RM require an Allen wrench to loosen or tighten, and between the cover plate over the front strap tightener, and the loose hardware that flops around when the rear clamp is removed, it’s easy to lose parts or patience with this rack.
Additionally, and more significantly, the ratchet bar that grips over the bike’s front tire shakes loose, and several times the bikes have become loose and floppy during transit.
All in all, I’m not a fan of Rocky Mounts.

From the center of the fixed front mounting point to the nearest end of the carrier it is 18 inches. And from the center of the fixed mounting point to the far end is 45-1/4 inches. To use this bike carrier with a fat bike you will also need the Fattie adapter, # RKY1240, which comes with a larger wheel cradle and longer straps for the large fat bike tires.

I'd recommend the RockyMounts BrassKnuckles bike rack, part # RKY1201. When equipped with the optional Fat Tire Adatper Kit, part # RKY1240, it will accommodate your bike.
