Rotating Arms with Ratcheting Hooks

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Ratcheting Arms

The MonoRail has ratcheting hooks that grab your bikes firmly by the front wheel - not the frame. It's perfect for carrying carbon bikes or bikes with a custom paint job. To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the cradle, rotate the arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook.

Pivoting Rear Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Wheel Straps

RockyMounts MonoRail 3 Bike Rack Wheel Straps

The rear wheel cradles accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. They pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to each bike's wheelbase - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the built-in ratcheting strap. The straps also include extenders for use with fat bikes.

Adjustable Bike Trays

RockyMounts MonoRail Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and back trays adjust 3" side-to-side to ensure you have enough space when loading your bikes. Just remove the bolts where the tray attaches to the bottom of the rack, slide the trays left or right to achieve the desired spacing, and then reinstall the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates bike-to-bike contact.

Front-Mounted Release Lever for Easy Tilting

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Rack Tilted

The rack tilts down - with or without bikes loaded - so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area. Because the tilt-release lever is located at the front of the rack, you don't have to worry about crawling through bikes or squeezing between the rack and the vehicle to pull it. When you raise the rack back up, you'll hear a click to indicate it's secure.

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Rack Folded

When the rack is unloaded you can pull the lever to fold it up for storage. This means you don't have to remove it to park in small lots at the trail head or in cramped parking garages.

Easy Installation

RockyMounts MonoRail Hitch Mount Bike Rack

It installs with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank into your 1-1/4" hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This will reduce noise and movement while the rack is installed.

Complete Security

RockyMount MonoRail Built-In Cable Lock

Included locks secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The integrated cable lock threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock that slides along the cable.

RockyMounts MonoRail Hitch Lock

The hitch lock simply snaps onto the hitch pin and locks in place. The cable and hitch lock are keyed alike, so you'll only need 1 key for both locks.

Absolutely love it. Put it on the car the first day and took it out with the bike. Was a little iffy about it at first but after a few minutes my fears were eased. This rack is rock solid and I’m so glad I purchased it.

Great product! Solid build. Was unsure at first but after installing and carrying my bikes around the first time I have zero anxiety about the security of the rack. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a solid and secure transportation for their bikes. It also fits my road ebike with no issues.

by:

This is a great bike rack. I was rear ended a few weeks ago, which damaged the bike rack, but I liked it so much I bought the exact same one.

by:

Have had a lot of use with this rack.

Easy
to load in car hitch. Couldn’t be simpler for securing the bikes.
The raise and lower ability is helpful to open trunk easily. (Has previous rear trunk mounted rack that was a pain and near dangerous to open the trunk with the bikes on the rack.). I drive a Honda Accord 4 door.

Recommend this rack highly. Really like it. Well made and worth it.

Sturdy, reliable, easy to use, does its job well. I was happy to purchase it a year ago and I’m still happy I purchased it. I recommend this rack without hesitation. It’s been a good investment and I’d get it again if I had a do over.

by:

Easy to assemble Exactly what i expected

by:

Love this rack!

by:

I love this rack. It's simple, light and fits all sizes of bikes, even those with fat tires. And the price was great.

The staff at etrailer has always been helpful. This is the best site I've seen for rack/hitch/trailer stuff due to the ease of use, the information available, the staff and the prices.

by:

Just received today. set it up was easy. Bike rack is sturdy and looks good. It’s a lot cheaper with similar quality compare to other brands. Pretty happy so far.

by:

Just received, was very easy to put together, all the tools and hardware came with the hitch. Seems like a quality hitch. The “T” handle tilt lever feels very solid, seems like thought of everything, came with two locks, one for the hitch pin, and the other for a cable to secure the bikes with its own spot to attach the cable. Even came with strap extensions in case your bike has extreme fat tires. So far very pleased with this purchase.

I had bought the one inch the fit my hitch, worked gteat for a while, but we have a cabin in Lake Tahoe, about 200 mile drive. We have two EBikes that we have bean towing, they are within the rated advertised limit, when we got home, the rack had bent backwards, and the bike rack was close to ground.

This item has a limited lifetime warranty and I have sent that information along to you.

by:

Fits a wide range of tires (including fat bikes) and modern mountain bikes, size small through extra large with ease. I've tightened down the rack a few times with the supplied tool, and that is the only maintenance required so far. Very happy.

by:

The hitch insert portion of the rack bent slightly after long road trip with two enikes each 45lbs each.. I contacted the supplier and they mentioned there was a batch of bad metal and they sent me a replacement piece. I would probably buy a different rack next time.

by:

Works like a charm. Able to get into hatchback without pulling rack down, but when it’s more convenient to get rack out of the way, it is very, very simple and easy to do with one hand.

This bike racks continue to perform. Additionally, when I prefer it off the car, it is easy and quickly removed and reinstalled. Handles the weight of our 2 e-bikes. Would recommend.

by:

After a year of using this rack I am still quite happy with it. It is holding up well, is easy to use and holds the bikes securely. For such reasonable price this is a solid rack that I would highly recommend.

Still very happy with this bike rack. It has held up well with no problems and I use it regularly. The tilt works great and is especially handy when I forget and put the bike on before closing the hatch Mazda CX-5.

by:

This is the best bike rack I've ever owned. It's very simple and quick to mount bikes and they remain very secure and solid on bumpy roads and crossing RR tracks. No extra bungie cords or ropes required. We own1 ebike and there is no problem with the rack handling the extra weight. If you have an SUV you can still have access to open your back hatch door even with the bikes loaded because of the tilt feature. Your bikes can be locked to the rack as well as the rack locked to your vehicle with the locks and keys provided. I would recommend this rack to any one looking for something simple and secure. It's very well constructed.

by:

This bike rack is worth the price! It is so much easier to load and carry backs than with a hanging rack. Also, less damage to our bikes because they are not bumping up against each other. It's not cheap but worth the investment.

by:

Solid rack, don’t regret buying the Rocky over the Kuat. Sturdy and feel like it will last for years!

by:

Received a Rockymounts Monorail 2 in just a few days from ordering. My first impression after unboxing to assembly is this rack is well made and stout. Assembly was quick and had it on our older Outback in less than a half hour. The bolt mount to the 1&1/4" hitch is good and tight , no movement at all. Mounted my mountain bike in less than a minute, then my wifes all around and no interference although there is adjustment in the trays if needed. Drove around the block and am very impressed with the lack of movement. The release handle is cleverly placed and lowering the rack fully loaded is a snap and plenty of room to open the back door of the car.
This is one well made good looking rack, highly recommended! Very happy with Etrailer

by:

I've had this bike rake for about a year. Built very sturdy. Fits my fat bike, trail bike, and road bike. Only downside is that the locks are a bit cheap. Plastic bodies that could probably be broken off with a hammer.

by:

I am extremely pleased with etrailer. I have previously purchased 2 1.25" trailer hitches, a very smooth process also, but this is the first bike rack. I received it on the promised date. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was packed and organized. Even the screws and bolts already had on them the proper flat washer alone or along with the split washer as per the instructions. The instructions were clear and assembly easy. It is very solid and well constructed. The rack folded up looks "sleek" on the back of my Prius. Drove 12 miles with a road bike and hybrid on the rack day after assembling and had no problems It takes less than a minute to put the 2 bikes on the rack.

Here is a different prospective. I have had for about 10 years a Thule T2 Classic rack that I love and use regularly. It is very similar to to the RockyMounts Monorail. As I needed a 2nd rack why did I purchase the RockyMounts Monorail? It is 11 pounds lighter and $xx less expensive. It is less bulky but still very strong and carries the bikes just as well as the Thule. Surprising benefits are the blue release lever is at waist level and easily accessed compared to the release lever on the Thule. Also to lower the bike loaded rack to open the hatch door you just pull on the same lever. On the Thule you need to remove a separate hitch pin that is below the bikes and not easily reached. The lighter weight is much easier for my wife to raise and lower the rack. Overall a great experience.

by:

This bike rack is excellent! Saved me several hundred dollars compared to the Thule one I was going to buy at a local bike store, and it can carry about 100 pounds more, which I need with my wife's new e-bike. So glad a friend told me about etrailer.com, I will use them again!

by:

Relatively easy to assemble and install. Rack is solidly attached to hitch with little movement. Tools for installation are provided. Bikes do not touch each other. Bikes are easy to load on rack. Locks provided.

by:

Received the Rockymounts in just few days from ordering. Rack is just as described (thanks for your excellent reviews and videos). An easy installation on Acura RDX 2019. Completed our first trip (100miles) with two bikes mounted on with no problems (I was a bit concerned about the weight on the 1-1/4 hitch). The feature we love the most is the ability to tilt the rack with the 2 bikes mounted, open the tailgate and get a clear/full access to car. On first impression this is a great rack. However we'll have to wait and see how it will preform in the long run. I was very happy with etrailer. Great communication and they immediately matched a lower price from other retailers.

by:

This is my third bike rack and definitely the best. The extra front tire support is a nice feature as well as the pull handle for raising it up. etrailer worked with me about a messed up shipping for the 1st order and let me switch hitch sizes when UPS failed to deliver to me and returned it to etrailer.

by:

Wish I'd bought it sooner. As far as I can tell this thing has no downside. The straps and arms are big and sturdy and easy to handle. Yes, it has some plastic parts, but it still works like new after a year of constant use, on long road trips and rough dirt roads, in rain and snow and dust and polar vortex ice storms. As a bonus, the price was much lower than competitor's racks. So worth it.

by:

I’m still really happy with this purchase. One year later and having done a lot of day trips with my bike on this rack, I honestly have no complaints and wouldn’t change a thing.

by:

wonderful rack.

  • Could RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10003 Be Used at Rear of Motorhome
Unlike some bike racks the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10003 that you referenced is rated for the rougher ride quality at the rear of a motorhome so it would work great for you in that regard. This rack has 12 inches from it's hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the rack so it would have great clearance too but you'd have to compare that measurement to your spare to make sure it would fit past that. If the distance from your hitch's pin hole out to the furthest edge...

  • Is RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack a Good Rack to Use in Curt Hitch of 2018 Hyundai Elantra
Yes the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 bike rack part # RKY10003 that you referenced is a great choice for the 1-1/4 inch hitch of your 2018 Hyundai Elantra that has a Class I hitch installed like the Curt # C11424. This is an easy bike to load and unload and since it only touches the bikes by the tires it also does a great job protecting the finish of the bikes installed on it. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out as well.

  • Comparing RockyMounts MonoRail to Yakima Fullback 2 for 2019 Acura RDX without Hitch
You're correct that the Fullback 2 and MonoRail are both very highly recommended and are very high quality bike racks; I've recommended both of these to our neighbors depending on their particular vehicle and needs. With that said, the Yakima Fullback 2 # Y02633 and RockyMounts MonoRail # RKY10003 are two different types of rack in that one is a trunk mounted rack and the other is a hitch mounted rack; they're not really comparable since a trunk mounted rack is typically only used when...

Frame mounted bike racks tend to damage carbon fiber bike frames so instead I recommend the RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Wheel Mount Item # RKY10003. That's a great question. When we installed a Curt # C13146 Class III hitch on a 2020 Honda Pilot, we found that the hitch pin hole in the receiver was only recessed under the vehicle to the point where the center pin hole to furthest rearward point of the bumper distance was only 4-1/2 inches which isn't a big deal at all, and would be compatible with just about any bike rack. You don't mention what type of bikes you have or how many you want to carry, but I can see that you looked at...
