Video Transcript for Review of LubriMatic Lubricants Sealants Adhesives - Grease - L54FR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the LubriMatic marine trailer wheel bearing grease in these 3-ounce cartridges for a quantity of three. Now this'll provide excellent corrosion protection against severe conditions that can be caused by salt water and salt air. You can use this grease on wheel bearings including disc brake wheel bearings, swivel hinges, pins, winches, and anchor chain reels. This is a special calcium sulfonate complex water insoluble formula, so it's ideal for marine applications. This grease is rated GC-LB by the NLGI #2, has a dropping point of 550 degrees Fahrenheit.

Again, the specs we mentioned, it's for three 3-ounce cartridges. Now to install this grease, it does need to be used with a mini grease gun which we do sell separate on our website. And you want to get the mini grease gun that's designed to use these 3-ounce cartridges. That grease gun we sell separately as part number L30100. Now the overall dimension on each cartridge is about 6 inches long by about 1 1/4 inch diameter.

And one note I do wanna mention, you do not want to mix grease types. So when you go to install this, you should remove the old grease before applying any new grease. But that should do it for the review on the LubriMatic Marine trailer wheel bearing grease in the 3-ounce cartridges for a quantity of three..

  • What is the Base of Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease
The marine bearing grease like # L54FR has a base of calcium sulfonate complex. It is not copper or lithium based. It is compatible with Barium Complex, Calcium Stearate, Lithium complex, and Polyurea (LUB-LM Type). I have included a link to our FAQ article on grease and grease compatibility for you.

  • Would LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR be Enough for 6 Hub Assemblies
The LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR would easily be enough grease for your 6 hub assemblies plus some extra for the future. You are correct though. Pack the bearing by hand and then use the EZ lube fitting to fill it the rest of the way up. I attached a video to this page that covers bearing packing as well.

  • Compatibility of Lubrimatic Grease with Other Grease Types
The Lubrimatic marine wheel bearing grease you mentioned # L54FR uses a calcium sulfonate base. Grease that uses that type of base is indeed compatible with lithium complex grease, according to the compatibility chart you mentioned. • Boat Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease for Hubs
I wouldn't be able to identify the grease you have based on just what you listed but I can tell you that there isn't a single grease that is compatible with everything. Most likely you have a marine grease in your hubs like the Lubrimatic # L54FR that you referenced but it's hard for me to determine this only based on what you listed. This would be a great choice when it's time to repack your bearings/hub. Also you should note that using bearing buddies to add grease to a hub that doesn't...

  • Can Different Marine Grease Be Mixed Together If They Have The Same Base
While it's not recommend, bearing greases with the same base like the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR and your Lucas marine bearing grease can be mixed as long as long as they have the same base.

  • Grease Cartridge Recommendation to Fit 3 oz Grease Gun for Trailer Hub
We have just what you need. The LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease 3 Pack part # L54FR is a 3 pack of 3 oz grease cartridges that will work great in your trailer hub and will also fit your grease gun. This grease is made from calcium sulfonate complex which is a water insoluble formula ideal for marine applications but still works really great in all trailer hub applications.

  • Grease Compatible with Boat Trailer Bearing Use
From what I can find online, you can combine the calcium sulfonate grease and an anhydrous calcium grease together, but your quantities and amounts will need to be mixed correctly so it is not too thick. A grease too thick will not operate the same under temperature changes and will also not be as fluid to lubricate all the smaller parts of the bearing. For boat trailer bearings, we normally recommend the Calcium Sulfonate grease like the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease...

  • Replacement Hubs and Maintenance Schedule for Boat Trailer
Hubs do have different depths. The key to choosing the right hub is matching up the weight capacity needed for the axle and matching the bearing set used. This ensures they will fit properly on your spindles and be able to handle the load put on them. You also want to match your wheel bolt pattern. All of our hubs are linked for you. It is best to service trailer bearings at regular intervals, as outlined in the linked article. It is possible that the bearings failed from inadequate lubrication....

  • Is the Base Compound of Lubrimatic Marine Grease Compatible with Lithium Grease
I spoke with my contact at Lubrimatic and found that they are compatible. The Lubrimatic marine grease is a calcium sulfonate base that is compatible with the lithium complex grease you are currently using. We actually have an FAQ article that covers this very subject. In the article there is a handy table that lists the compatibility of various grease formulations. I have included a link to the FAQ for you.

  • Is the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Bearing Grease Compatible with Starplex EP 2 Grease
Yes, the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Bearing Grease, # L54FR, is compatible with the Starplex EP 2 grease that you currently have on your Karavan boat trailer. I have attached an article on lubricating grease that you may find helpful when searching for new bearing grease.

  • Can Copper Grease Be Used in Trailer Hubs
Copper grease is an anti-seize compound and not a lubricant so I cannot recommend you use it for your boat trailer hubs. Instead I would recommend you go with Red grease like part # L11390 as this is the highest quality grease for trailer hubs. It resists water and heat better than multi-purpose grease.

  • Is LubriMatic High Temperature Grease Better Than LubriMatic Marine Grease
The difference between the High Temperature Grease, like part # L11465, and the Marine Grease, like part # L54FR, has to do with what they are used for. The high temperature grease is great for dry application where your trailer is not meant to be immersed in water. The marine grease, on the other hand, is made for trailers that will be immersed in water. It provides excellent corrosion protection under severe conditions caused by saltwater and air. They are both excellent types of...

This grease is lithium-complex based and is compatible with aluminum-complex based greases. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out. • Grease Recommendation for Casita Travel Trailer With Unknown Grease in Hub
Without knowing for sure what grease you have in your hub I can only really make a recommendation for the Red grease like part # L54FR which is the most universal style of grease we carry and also the most heavy duty. For a grease gun for 3 oz cartridges you then would want the part # L30132. This comes with some general purpose grease, just set it aside and use the # L54FR.

It will also work well with a few other bases as you can see in the attached photo and help article. • Recommended Grease for Packing Trailer Wheel Bearings
For wheel bearings on a trailer I recommend going with a high-temperature grease like the Prime Guard # L11380. This polyurea-based grease works perfectly for packing wheel bearings. This is simply because some formulas of grease are not compatible with each other and the resulting reactions can lead to bearing failure down...
