Replacement Hubs and Maintenance Schedule for Boat Trailer

Question:

so I just recently bought a boat and trailer, I had to replace the bearings, races and seal on one side cause the bearing blew out on the way towing it home. the previous owner replaced the other side he said, I checked and it is replaced, the whole hub assembly. one from orschelins, the one from orschelins, the hub depth is too deep that the crown nut wont go far enough to see the holes in the spindle to the cottor pin. do they make different size depth for hubs?

Hubs do have different depths. The key to choosing the right hub is matching up the weight capacity needed for the axle and matching the bearing set used. This ensures they will fit properly on your spindles and be able to handle the load put on them. You also want to match your wheel bolt pattern. All of our hubs are linked for you.

It is best to service trailer bearings at regular intervals, as outlined in the linked article. It is possible that the bearings failed from inadequate lubrication. There are different formulas of grease so you might want to check out the linked article that explains the different types and their applications. We have special types for marine use, like # L11404, which will do the best job of protecting your bearings from heat-related damage.
