Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Trailer Wiring - 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness - HM47210

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Hopkins Endurance Quick Install Seven Way Trailer Connector with universal pigtail harness. This is a seven blade RV style trailer connector that will mount onto your vehicle. It's gonna be very simple to get installed. Your pigtail harness here is going to hardwire into your truck's existing wiring and then the seven way connector is going to plug right into that harness. As you can see, I already have it here but I can pull those apart so you can see those two different components together.

Once you get that assembled there, then it'll be ready for you to plug in your trailers a seven way cable there. This is an extremely durable ABS plastic construction so it is gonna hold up really well for you. This oversized lid hinge allows our lid to open 180 degrees so it is going to be very easy to make our connections there. I'm not gonna have to worry about the lid being in the way and then when it's closed, it is going to help keep out dirt and moisture to protect those connections. This does have enhanced weatherproofing with internal seals and corrosion resistant terminal so it is going to hold up well even being out in the elements for long periods of time.

Now the mounting screws and bracket that you're gonna need to get this mounted are sold separately. You can find those here at etrailer.com. Very simple to use those, to get this mounted on your truck. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com.

Thanks for watching..

Overall, I was very impressed by this connector. I used it as an in-bed connector for my gooseneck trailers. The plug seems to be a quality product, engineered to stand up to some abuse. I like how the mounting bolt heads recess into the connector and also how the bottom of the connector is elongated to help support the weight of the plug and wiring. I think it has a great shot at lasting for a very long time. The hinge is predominately plastic that will not corrode and break like the many I've had in the past.

Great Product quick and easy install.

by:

The ordering process was easy Thank you!

by:

Purchased Rv trailer socket for "in bed" installation in my Ram truck. Installation went smoothly and etrailer videos were most helpful in visualizing the install. Product works as described and ordering and delivery were on schedule. Thanks for the great service!

product is working fine-easy installation

Excellent Will definitely order again excellent customer service

by:

works just as intended. Install was easy, I did not use the included bracket because it would hang below the bumper. I mounted it inside the well on the bumper where you would put a bumper hitch. It is used only about once a month. I did have to run a brake controller wire because my truck was not equipped with it. 13 f150 xl

by:

I had the loose wire pigtail already under my f250 sd. I clipped the factory sealant off the end of the wires on the truck, stripped em back and attached with heat seal butt connectors. You will need the blue and yellow connectors as the factory wires are different gauges.

Etrailer has excellent how-to videos and detailed information about all their products it seems. It made buying and installing the right parts a breeze. They do the homework for you, their prices are better than most other online retailers and they ship fast. They earned my repeat business.

by:

Although I have just installed this I believe it to be very good quality and it should last a long time based on my inspection of it. Be sure to order a mounting bracket if you don't already have one as this unit doesn't come with a bracket. Hopkins bracket part # is 48615.

I like the fact that the harness plugs into the connector instead of having to strip and connect every wire into the connector individually. That should help inhibit corrosion which is the #1 cause of trailer electrical issues and it makes things much easier if I have to replace the connector later.

by:

I have purchased from etrailer several times and the products have always been as described. They ship fast and the products are packaged well. I hit my wiring harness on a log and needed to replace it. etrailer was less money then the auto stores and I did not have to drive 28 miles into Durango and back. Gas prices make online purchases great.

Thank You for being in business.

Quick and easy to install. Just splice wires( I use the shrink type connectors). No messing around trying to get wires under screws. And if the plug connector ever gets broke, all you have to replace is the connector. The wires are in a waterproof housing that unplugs from connector.

by:

This connector is just want I was looking for. It gives me a way to power my trailer via an external battery. I have attached battery clips to the leads. The construction is solid, and the documentation for each lead is excellent. For my cargo trailer, I use the lead for the running lights. For my travel trailer, I use the lead called accessories, I think.

by:

Exactly what I needed for less than half the price a local dealer quoted for purchase ($44, not including installation! He also wouldn't sell me just the kit, for the kit with installation he wanted over $100!) Do it yourself and save a bundle - make a few simple wire connections and plug and go - etrailer.com makes it quick and easy! Shipping is prompt.

by:

This was just what I was looking for. I have a motorized trailer dolly that I wanted to add this item to in order to operate my electric boat winch rather than having to back the truck up to the trailer.

by:

The item with a good layout of color coding where to install was awesome. I installed and plug in to my boat trailer and tested ... everything works in correct light function.
I will do business again with your company. Keep it up.

As good as the day I installed it Great having the reverse lockout when vehicle is put in reverse to back a trailer

by:

Great company. With products I need. Fantastic service and real people! Great followup! They even linked an installation video for my use. I will be back.

by:

Product is great and easy to install. I only wish it would have come with the crimp connectors and heat shrink however that was my fault for selecting the wrong product.

by:

The Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness - Vehicle End - HM47210 works well no problem with the installation. All fit the original bracket.

by:

Works for me exactly as I hoped. A way to wire up a spare battery to run the lighting on the cargo trailer so as to not drain the truck battery.

by:

Work great. Just wish truck driver would quit moving the wires so that the plug pulls out and breaks the plastic. Easy to replace once the back plug is wired.

by:

Well made product. Will need to purchase mounting hardware and splicing material. Wire colors matched standard chevrolet wire colors with the exception of the backup/reverse which is purple on the pigtail vice light green on my truck.

by:

I have always been happy with the items from etrailer and intend to continue buying their products

by:

Good solid plastic lid.
Very easy to
install.
Drilled 2 1/4 hole in bumper and used 1 1/4 self tapping screws to fasten it.

by:

with wiring harness installation was easy ...worked well

To replace your 4-way with a 7-way on your 2013 Honda Pilot you can leave the converter box and relay harness. You'll need to cut off the existing 4-way and install a 7way connector like # HM47210. It would be must easier installation of the 7way. However, this harness is only sold with the entire kit and not individually. If...
