Installing a Brake Controller on a 2002 Ford Explorer
Question:
I need to know the part number of the wire loom to hook up a brake controler for my trailer, I have 7 wires going back to the rear of my car can you help me. I have a Hopkins control

Expert Reply:
It sounds like you might have the factory tow package that included a 7-way trailer connector, but the connector is gone. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the function of each of those 7 wires. If they are the proper functions for a 7-way trailer connector you will be able to use # HM47210.
If those are not the correct wires, then you will need to install a 4-way trailer connector using # 118344 which installs by plugging into the Explorer's wiring via a connector behind each taillight. Then use our # ETBC7 kit which includes the 7-way and everything else to connect the Hopkins controller.
