Adam: What's going on, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the etrailer 2-1/2 inch trailer ball kit. This is a nice kit that we put together that pretty much gives you everything you need to haul some heavier duty stuff. We can go with a rise, we can go with a drop, and we have two different kinds to choose from.Now let's go ahead and see how it looks when we hook it up to a trailer. Do you have a trailer that has a high coupler, like a dump trailer or something else like that This might be really good for that. But for all the trailers we have here at etrailer, it is a little bit too much of a rise for what we really need, but that's why we give you two options.
If you don't have a lifted truck, I would definitely recommend getting the 1-1/2 inch rise and 3 inch drop ball. This is a 2500 stock Silverado, and this is definitely the one we're going to be using, but if you do have a little bit of a lift, it's probably best to go with the 5 inch drop and 3-1/2 inch rise.Between the two kits, we're going to have one differentiating factor, and that is just going to be the shank itself. One is going to have a 1-1/2 inch rise or a 3 inch drop. The other one is going to have a 3-1/2 inch rise or a 5 inch drop. Both are going to be made for a 2-1/2 inch class five hitch with a gross trailer weight of 18,000 pounds and a trailer tongue weight of 2,000 pounds.
Both are going to have an overall length of 15-1/2 inches, and then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the very end, it's going to be about 11-1/2 inches. And then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of our ball mount hole, it's going to be about 10-1/4 inches. It is made of one solid piece, and it is going to have a nice powder coated finish, so it's not going to rust away on you over time.Both kits will come with a 2-5/16 inch ball with a gross trailer weight rating of 20,000 pounds, but we want to make sure that we don't exceed the actual ball mount here, which is 18,000. The shank of our ball is going to be 1-1/4 inch in diameter, so it's nice and tight. A little bit of wiggle room, but that is okay.
And the overall length is going to be about 2-3/4 inches.We do provide a pretty durable canvas bag for you, has a little holder here. And with the ball mount completely assembled, it's going to be able to fit in there with ease with plenty of room for your hitch pins and anything else that you want to fit in here. If you needed an 1-7/8 inch ball or a 2-inch ball, we do have a lot here to choose from at etrailer, but just make sure that you don't go over the ball's capacity, as the shank is going to be a little bit tougher than the smaller ball size.One thing that doesn't come with the kit is a hitch pin and clip. We do have a lot here at etrailer. So this one here is going to about 5-3/4 inches long, and it fits just perfectly through the 2-1/2 inch shank to where you can get this pin inserted in.
But in my opinion, what I do with any hitch-mounted accessory is grab a lock. So the etrailer lock is 5/8 inches in diameter, fits nice and snug in there, and this is going to lock it to your hitch receiver so it doesn't run off. The mounting hardware is included. We're going to get a lock washer and a big old nut, but the tools are not included, so what you're going to need is either a wrench or a socket. That's going to be an inch and 13/16ths inches. And I would definitely recommend getting a breaker bar to lock this thing down, because we're really going to have to torque this tight. I would go ahead and insert the ball mount. This one is the 2-inch drop. And get her locked in place.And that's just about it for a look at the etrailer 2-1/2 inch trailer ball set..

Well made super strong ball and hitch. The carrying bag makes storing the unit in my camping trailer very convenient. Excellent value.
This is a very stout product that instills confidence. The 2.5" size of this ball mount fits perfectly in my Chevy 2.5" hitch. I tow 10K+ pounds regularly and I'm much happier using this 2.5" instead of 2" ball mount with a sleeve.
I used the 3" drop version of this part for three years and had no issues so I decided I would try the 5" drop for my new truck (lifted this one slightly higher).
If I had one complaint (it isn't really) it's that the ball mount itself seems to have been ground on with a grinding wheel prior to being finished. This makes the finished surface of the drop arm rough and uneven. It works fine, but I'm a little OCD and I feel like for $90 I should get a part that looks as good as it performs.
Ball mount is solid and heavy. Purchased for use with a smaller cargo trailer, so the weight rating is overkill. I didn't want to use the 2" adapter on the receiver so I purchased this 2.5 inch mount. Fits nicely and am sure that it will hold up to whatever I throw at it. The chrome coating on the ball started wearing off after the first couple of hundred miles.
This ball mount and ball are the definitely heavy-duty. The bag, not so much. After one use, the ball has already lost a good bit of its chrome (I HATE chrome!), but will continue to function fine. Grease... The bag is only so-so, but does keep everything together nicely when not mounted in the receiver. Just wish it was made in the USA instead of China.
Great product, I just hope I got it low enough to level the trailer.

Its a well made and heavy duty product. It is a little longer than I needed but that is all right.
Fits perfect in my late model 2012 F350 factory receiver. This monster ball mount gives me the peace of mind that I can safely tow anything I want. I am very happy with this mount.
Bag is nice, but would like to have a horizontal handle as well.

receiver paint coating chipped to base metal, heavy duty kit should include the needed pin at this price point.
Perfect fit for my 2011 2500HD duramax and quality is very good. Drop is perfect for stock ride height. Solid and Heavy. Best part was help from George J who proactively reached out to make sure it would reach me in time. Service like that is rare based on my ordering from other online retailers.

Used the unit to tow my 26 foot camper trailer on a 4000 mile trip this past winter. Worked well. I didnt worry about the connection between my truck and trailer.
