Question:

to make my trailer level, I need a 5 in drop. The the truck has a 4 in drop ball mount now. Do I need to have one custom built, or am I close enough?

Usually the tongue weight of the trailer will pull down the rear of the vehicle a little and it is possible it could be enough to make the trailer level. If that does not happen then I do recommend going with a ball mount with more drop.

For a fixed ball mount I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2-1/2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Rise or 5" Drop - 18,000 lbs # EBMK25518 . If you have a 2 inch receiver than an adjustable ball mount such as # C45900 is your best option. This one has a max drop of 6 inches and is adjustable in 1 inch increments. Using the second to last mounting position would provide a 5 inch drop. Plus if you ever towed a different trailer with a different rise or drop requirement having an adjustable ball mount is a useful item to have for those situations.
