Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Unassembled and Unprimed
Because welding can cause damage to the internal components, this actuator comes unassembled and unprimed for your convenience. No need to waste time taking apart an actuator or risk losing important parts. Once you have the actuator welded in place, prime and paint it to match your application.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 5 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.
This actuator is great for tall trailers. This is because the adjustable channel is positioned so that the mounted coupler can sit below the actuator tube, allowing for a greater drop than with a standard center-mounted channel. As a result, you can line up your tall trailer with your tow vehicle's hitch for a level setup.

Today, we're going to take a look at the Demco un-assembled hydraulic drum brake actuator with the raw finish. It has this 12 inch adjustable channel down design at the front. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. This one is un-assembled and unprimed for quick, easy welding. Welding while un-assembled helps prevent any damage to the internal components. It does have this adjustable channel up at the front here, has five different mounting positions for the coupler that you install in here.
Now, the coupler is sold separately, there's many different couplers that would fit in here. We do sell those separately on our website. You can it has a channel down design, which allows for greater drop. Now they do use a composite master cylinder, which is very durable and efficient. It's a glass reinforced nylon construction to resist rust and corrosion.
It's a very large reservoir, which provides increased capacity for your brake fluid. And if you notice at the top, it has this automotive style diaphragm cap, which creates a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of your brake fluid.Now it does include the breakaway lever. This will activate your trailer brakes as the trailer disconnects from your tow vehicle. The snap hook on this end here will ensure secure connection to the lever. Now does use these assets, copolymer linings on the inside, provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator will telescope in and out.
It is a heavy duty steel construction. It's a weld-on installation. This part is made in the USA. Again, the application for this is trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity on this is 20,000 pounds.
Maximum tongue weight is 2000 pounds. Now the channel width right up here in the front, the inside width is going to be three inches. The channel height, the very bottom, the very top, is right at 12 inches tall.
