Surge-type actuator features a corrosion-resistant composite master cylinder and a primed finish. 8" Adjustable down channel lets you mount coupler attachments (sold separately) in 1 of 3 positions. Welds onto a 50-degree A-frame trailer.

Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.
This actuator is great for tall trailers. This is because the adjustable channel is positioned so that the mounted coupler can sit below the actuator tube, allowing for a greater drop than with a standard center-mounted channel. As a result, you can line up your tall trailer with your tow vehicle's hitch for a level setup.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a look at this Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator for a-frame trailers with an adjustable down channel. This is also identified by the model number DA10. This hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down.
When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. You can mount almost any type of coupler, which is sold separately, from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or a clevis attachment to fit your specific application. In addition, the three mounting positions on this channel let you adjust the height of the coupler.
Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly. This actuator is actually great for tall trailers. This is because the adjustable channel is positioned so that the mounted coupler can sit below the actuator tube, allowing for a greater drop than with a standard center mounted channel. As a result, you can line up your tall trailer with your tow vehicles hitch for a level setup. This channel width is approximately three inches wide, and the channel height is about eight inches.
Now, the composite master cylinder is durable and efficient. It is glass reinforced nylon construction, and it's going to resist rust and corrosion. And the large reservoir provides increased capacity for break fluid. The automotive style diaphragm cap creates a completely enclosed system to help prevent the contamination of break fluid. Now, this does have an acetyl co-polymer lining that provides smooth operation as this actuator telescopes in and out.
And the breakaway cable is included with a snap hook to ensure a secure connection to your breakaway lever. This will hook to your tow vehicle, probably a good place to put this would be where you hook your safety chains to. And this is going to prevent a trailer in a runaway situation. If your trailer unhooks from your tow vehicle, it will pull this cable which will activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes to keep it from a runaway situation. This is made in the USA of heavy duty steel construction with a primed finish. And this will weld onto your 50 degree a-frame trailer with hydraulic drum brakes. The gross towing weight is 12,500 pounds. The maximum tongue weight is 1,250 pounds. And because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer brakes. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
