Subaru Forester

Just received the hitch and wiring harness for my 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Very excited about getting it installed. Ironic thing……… I saved over $700 by going with. ETrailer rather then getting the factory installed when I bought the car. And, the tongue weight was nearly double. Hmmmmm Thanks ETrailer, your a great resource for us “shade tree mechanics”.

Excellent choice. Totally satisfied with the product and the support. I watched the install videos and had no issues at all. The hitch has been on my Subaru Forester for a year and no problems. Thanks E-Trailer.

2023 Subaru Forester

Etrailer is my Go-To online shop for anything Trailer or Cargo related. They have great prices, fast shipping, and great videos showing us the installation process. As for this product, Curt always makes great Hitches and they never disappoint. For home installers, use a floor jack to lift and hold the Hitch in place while you bolt the rack.

by:

The installation was easy, about an hour total. I've been pulling a kayak trailer every week the weather has been nice and everything has been fine. I couldn't be happier overall. Additionally , I like the look of how it's recessed under the bumper, it's barely noticeable without the hitch installed.

by:

Very happy with the quality of the hitch, instructions, and ease of installation. Note - you will need a drill or diegrinder or file to increase the diameter of a hole in the frame to insert the bolts. Otherwise this was actually a very straight forward install on the Forester and greatly exceeds the specs of the OEM hitch. Thanks for selling great products and excellent installation videos to help make it easy and clear how to attach to my vehicle.

2022 Subaru Forester

Installed on 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness - a little more difficult than the one I installed on our Crosstrek. Watch the install video, it is very good and details all the necessary steps required to get the trailer hitch receiver on the vehicle. Great customer service.

Yes - working great - was fairly easy to install, just needed to muffler down a little to get into place

by:

Terrible product when it comes damaged due to poor packaging such as no protective foam on a 40 pound item bouncing around in a cardboard box. Sent out a replacement and it was worse than the original. It was packaged in a used box using only tape that came with more holes than the original one. The original resolution from customer service was for me to repair it, they would send paint to me or a $[XX] credit. I opted to give them another shot with a “new” one and the second one was worse, see pictures for yourself.

by:
2021 Subaru Forester

Hitch looks amazing on my Subaru Forester. It tucks in close to the bottom of the bumper and doesn't stick out past the back of the bumper like some that cause a tripping hazard. It came with instructions that were easy to follow and installation was a snap.

by:
2022 Subaru Forester

Fit like a glove. Exhaust on my 22 Forester Touring was slightly different shape from installation video but it still went in with the same instructions. You need 2 people (or an exhaust stand) for lifting it into place for bolting it onto the frame. Also, there's no need to completely remove the plastic cover on the driver's side; just remove the 3 screws that are easy to reach and move it out of the way temporarily during the hitch bolt-on step.

After a year of light use, this hitch still looks new and is secure as new. Im glad I used touch-up paint on the enlarged frame mounting holes because we have lots of rain, and rust would probably have formed.

Perfect fit for the 2021 Subaru Forester. Watched the installation video several times and then got to work installing it. No issues at all. We use the Thule 2-Bike Rack on it and it handles it easily.

by:

When I told a friend that I needed a trailer hitch to accommodate the bicycle rack I wanted to buy, he recommended etrailer.com. It turned out to be a great decision. They were friendly, professional, and helpful. The trailer hitch is perfect, and the mechanic who installed it for me agreed. I highly recommend etrailer, and also this hitch.

by:

I have not yet installed the hitch, but it appears to be a quality product. I have no doubt that it will work well on my Forester.
Like other reviews, there were issues with the packing. Putting a heavy product in a cardboard box with no packing material is not advised. The box had numerous holes on arrival with parts of the hitch exposed. Luckily no major damage or scratches.

by:

Went on flawlessly. Worked as advertised on son's Subaru Forester for his move out west

by:
Subaru

Sturdy, functional and glad I purchased through e trailer vs Subaru.

by:

The package arrived with holes in the boxes. Some taped up some weren't. I have not opened the box up. I'm afraid stuff will be missing.

by:

Installation instructions/videos clear. Installation straight forward but awkward doing in home garage by myself without lift (I'm senior citizen). Well built, have had no issues with product, no problem with rattles, etc. Needed to purchase 26" 1/2" drive torque wrench for nuts; my 18" 1/2 drive torque wrench wasn't adequate.

Excellent product, with a great instructional video, which makes it easy to install. My son and I installed it in an hour or so on our garage floor w/out any special tools.

by:
2020 Subaru Forester

Product is solid and appears well made. Instructions were fairly clear, but at least for me a video on [online] made the fish tapping step a little more obvious.

Only critique for the hitch would be the safety chain mount being flat stock makes some chains annoying to clip in compared to round stock.

Shipping brought the rack in good condition, but I’m incredibly surprised it did. Massive box with the hitch and my wiring harness just bouncing around inside with almost no effort to secure them.

by:

The hitch itself is very nice high quality piece. Getting the bolts fished through the uni-body was a bit of a trick, not something a typical do it yourself type should attempt without an air grinder to enlarge the hole that the bolts get fed through and the center bolt needs a T slot cut to feed the bolt stops through. Will also need a magnet with a long handle and 2ft piece of fishing wire to get the bolt wires fished in. this job took me over 3 hrs using a real auto work shop.

by:

Easy solo-installation. Precut holes lined up perfectly and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Product performed with zero issues. My wife was rear-ended recently, the 5” rise hitch took the entirety of the blow. After inspections by Subaru they concluded there was zero damage to the car, frame and hitch receiver. 5” rise was bent and replaced. Not sure if its protocol to replace this despite the mechanic’s assessment but I included this to support the idea that this receiver is sturdy and well designed for use well beyond the capabilities of this car.

by:

I use this for my bike rack and have been using it for a year now. No issues at all and the installation instructions were very thorough. Highly recommend this product.

by:
2020 Subaru Forester

Hitch receiver arrived quickly and without damage. The etrailer videos are very helpful. Successfully installed on 2020 Subaru. Took longer than expected due to my available tools (particularly needing to have a metal grinding dremel bit to widen the access hole on the frame). But overall straightforward. Tip: leave the fishing wires on the bolts (all 6 of them) for the next steps after you get your carriage bolts seated. Had to put them all back on. Very helpful to have another person hold the hitch receiver up when bolting it on.

Did not follow the instructions provided in the shipment as it shown for the incorrect hole to enlarge.

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches for a 2019 Subaru Forester
The initial differences in the trailer hitches available for your 2019 Subaru Forester is that some of them have 1-1/4" receivers while others have 2" receivers. Going with the larger 2" receivers is always recommended because it opens up more opportunities for accessories that can be used. With that being said, the differences between the Curt # C13409 and Draw-Tite # 76271 are that the Curt trailer hitches tend to have better welds and a thicker powder coat for better protection but...

The best hitch for you is going to depend on how you plan on using it. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76271 is the best option if your goal is to tow a trailer behind your Forester. This hitch has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs and 525 max tongue weight. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13409 has an almost identical design as the 76271, but it is not rated for use with weight distribution.
