Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look and showing you how to install the Bulldog Wench Quick Connect set for power sports with dust covers for six gauge wires. Part number: BDW20047. To quick disconnect and this will allow us to easily plug into our truck and unplug quickly and easily. These are the cables that provide the power output from our truck to our trailer. We'll remove the dust covers. This is for six gauge wire and insert them together. That's it.

We're ready to get on the road. Now, this quick disconnect will be a great replacement for worn out, damaged, missing connectors for your wench, your snow plow attachment on the front of your truck, or a salt spreader on the back of your snow plow, such as we'll be doing here. You can even use it for a battery charge lying kit in a travel trailer or a fifth wheel. This kit does come with two matching ends and the four terminals. So, you have all you need in order to make a proper connection. This kit has a polycarbonate housing so it's durable and is rated to handle up to 50 amps. You'll see that it's labeled.

We have a nice positive side and a negative side so you can easily identify which cable goes where. We have a cover that has a lanyard built in so when it's not in use you can protect it from the elements and keep your terminals free of corrosion and free of dirt and debris. To begin our install, we'll need to remove some of the insulation from our wires. So, we use a utility knife just to cut away our insulation a little bit. Once you sufficiently cut around it we'll be able to pull the end of it off. We will do the same for the other wire. Now, we'll take our connector, our terminal end, and place it on one of our wires.

Doesn't matter which one. Put it all the way on there. Then, we'll crimp it into place. We're using a hydraulic crimper, which is readily available at most hardware stores. Pull that and make sure it's nice and secure.

We'll do the same for our other wire. Now, we'll take our quick disconnect housing, we'll pull off the cover. On the end we have a lanyard, we'll slide that over one of our wires. It doesn't matter which one. You'll notice there's a positive sign and a negative sign. We'll attach the positive to our positive cable, which in our case is the orange one here. So, it'll be this one. To do that we'll just slide the cable inside of the connector and push. When you hear it click you know it's secure. The negative, we'll attach the negative, which is our black one. Okay, once it clicks in we'll pull back on both to make sure both of our cables are locked into place, which they are. We have our cover, which we can slide over so when it's not in use it'll be protected from the elements. That completes our look at, and showing you how to install the Bulldog Wench Quick Connect set for power sports with dust cover for six gauge wire, part number: BDW20047.

MY LAST ORDER DID NOT COME WITH THE DUST CAP BUT IT WORKS GREAT MAY ORDER ANOTHER SET FOR BACK UP

by:

Little smaller than i expected but works great. The cable on the dust cap could be just a bit longer. Also need to add a washer behind when mounting the end with the dust cap on a flat surface. The dust cap is just a little too thick and won't go on if mounted flush. Other than that great product i use to as a quick connect for the removeable winch on my car trailer.

by:

I will be using this plug for the installation of a Redarc DC to DC charger and a small camping trailer. I like the apparent quality of this plug and others I looked at did not have the dust cap. The kit includes the proper size ring terminals which save me from shopping around for them.

by:

This is the second time I used trailer and without a doubt “great service” right from researching the required product, to shipping, follow-up, and good pricing. Do not hesitate to recommend trailer.

by:

I mounted my bulldog wench on a 2x8 and placed it on the back of the bed of Polaris Ranger. Do to health reasons I can no longer pick up deer & hogs so the bulldog wrench work great to get game in the back of Ranger .

by:

Just opened the shipping box. Everything looks just as advertised and in good condition. Looking forward to installing the kit. Thank you

by:

I didn’t realize that there’s only one dust cover or I would of gotten one with both dust covered.

Great two thumbs up it made connecting my snow plow effortless

by:

You need more dimensions of this type product, of course I ordered a small size when I needed a large size and mm's don't help most of us.

by:

To small for my needs, maybe one day I'll find some use for it.

  • Quick Disconnect for 10 Gauge Ground Wire on 4- to 7-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter
It looks like you ordered # 30717 but what would have been ideal for your situation is # 37185 which would retain the 4-Way while adding a 7-Way so you would not have had to disconnect anything if you wanted to tow a trailer with a 4-Way. You have some options. You could have a separate disconnect set up for the ground wire, replace the adapter you have with # 37185, or use a 7- to 4-Way adapter such as # PK12716. For quick disconnects your best bet would be # BDW20047 provided the ground...

  • Are the Bulldog Quick Connects IP Rated Waterproof
The Bulldog Quick Connect Kit # BDW20047 was not IP rated and in most case their exposure to the elements is expected, so that type of water resistance isn't required. To help shield these connectors from the elements that are encountered on the road these connectors come with dust covers that keep them free of dust/debris and water during travel.

  • Charging Trailer Batteries While Towing Using the Alternator in a 2016 Ford F-150
The problem with charging trailer mounted batteries is that vehicle alternators and the wiring going through, say, a 7-Way trailer connector cannot push back the amperage required to charge up the batteries (or it would take an extremely long time). At best they can maintain the charge level in most cases. But there is a solution to that issue and it is actually similar to what you have suggested. What you need is a DC to DC charger. We do have one rated at 40 amps, # 331-BCDC1240D, which...

  • Can I Use the 7-Way Connector On My Vehicle To Power the Redarc BCDC
The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D does require running a heavy gauge wire that will directly connect to the alternator or battery on your tow vehicle. Unfortunately in this case your 7 pin connector will not provide enough power to properly power the BCDC charger and keep your batteries fully charged. With that said, this charger can easily be mounted on your trailer and will provide a great source of charging for your off-road trailer since it doesn't just provide...

  • Charging 4 Deep Cycle Batteries Running a Power Inverter with Fridge Plugged in While Traveling
What you can do is connect the batteries that power the inverter directly to the starter battery on the truck or even an alternator in your 2018 Ford F-450. Keep in mind though that when multiple batteries are connected together it takes a long time to charge all of them up. Instead of using the batteries you could attach the inverter directly to one of the truck batteries so that it will get constant power without depleting the truck batteries. This will allow you to keep your 4 deep...

To connect your Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 40 Amp # 331-BCDC1240D, you will need the 60-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit for Redarc In-Vehicle 40-Amp BCDC Battery Charger # 331-FK60. This will protect your vehicle and battery from potentially damaging overcurrent from short circuits or overloads. You will run the Red Wire from your RedArc unit to the fuse, and then from the fuse to the positive battery terminal on your vehicle start battery. I've attached...

  • Are there Quick Connectors to Attach Solar Panels to Batteries
What you could do is use quick connects such as # BDW20047. One of them you would wire to the batteries using 10 gauge wire such as # 10-2-1, sold by the foot, and the other one would wire to the solar panels. These connectors can accept wire as small as 10 gauge so anything smaller than that you would have to double up the wire before securing it in the terminals.

  • Can Redarc BCDC Charger Be Used with 7-Way Connector to Charge Trailer Battery
The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D that you referenced could physically be installed so that it uses 12V power from the 7-Way connector on your truck, but it's not going to allow for ideal operation. The problem is that typical trailer connectors use smaller 10 gauge wiring that just isn't capable of allowing enough power to pass through to really charge a battery up. Since this is exactly what you would want to use the BCDC charger for, using it with the 7-Way...

We do have exactly the parts you need for a DC to DC charger and solar panel which can be installed onboard a trailer, though it wouldn't use the 7-way connector. Wire (6 gauge) would need to be run directly from the battery and then connected with a quick-connect set. Here's exactly what you will need: - Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 25 Amp # 331-BCDC1225D - 40-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit for Redarc In-Vehicle 25-Amp BCDC Battery Charger # 331-FK40 -...

  • Do I Have to Connect To Battery for 12v Power with RedArc In-Vehicle BCDC
You will need to connect to the tow vehicle battery in this case. The issue with trying to install and run the RedArc In-Vehicle BCDC # 331-BCDC1225D via the 7 way is that the 10 gauge wiring in a 7 way trailer connector isn't sufficient to provide a charge to your battery. Since this is exactly what you would want to use the BCDC charger for, using it with the 7-Way would almost defeat its purpose so I cannot recommend that you wire it differently in this case. When installing this charger...

  • Recommendation for Maintaining 1999 Jayco Pop Up Campers Battery While Towing
I have a solution for you to maintain your trailer's battery while towing, but we do not offer an aux socket adapter for your battery charger from Schumacher. There is not a great way to charge your trailer's battery while towing, but you can provide the battery a maintenance charge so the trailer battery won't drain while being towed. One way to provide a maintenance charge to your trailer's battery while towing is to use a 7-Way trailer connector and 7-Way vehicle connector to provide...

  • Recommended Quick Connects for a Winch Being Installed on a Boat
Since the quick connects are only rated to 50 amps I'd beef up your cables to cover your 150 amp max pull rating. The 6 AWG is a minimum so you can go bigger, luckily. I'd steer towards something like the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 or for just the quick connects # BDW20133. This kit/connectors are going to work with 2 AWG wire which is larger, however they are rated for up to 175 Amps so you'll have your coverage.

  • Installing Redarc BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D for Charging Trailer Battery
The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D that you referenced is a perfect option to not only maintain the charge on your trailer's battery but actually charge it up during travel. This is because the charger will provide a continuous output of 25 amps (much more than just running a dedicate wire from the tow vehicle's battery to a 7-Way connector). This particular charger also has the ability to accept power input from solar panels for added efficiency if you ever decide...

  • How to Tell if Bulldog Winch Quick Connect Will Work With Badlands Winch
There are many different capacities of Badlands winch so it's not possible to tell you outright if the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set for Powersports w/ Dust Cover - 6 AWG # BDW20047 will work with your Badlands winch. If you are looking to attach 10 gauge wire to the metal connectors of the Superwinch Quick Connects # BDW20047 you could accomplish this. Instead of crimping the connectors you would just need to solder them. For just the metal connectors use # BDW20160 for your 10 gauge wire like # 10-2-1.

  • Why Does the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set Only Come With One Cap
The Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set part # BDW20047 only comes with one cover/plug. The reason for this is because the side attached to the battery would still be live which is the side you would use the plug on as water could get into the connector and cause corrosion issue. The other side would not be powered therefore corrosion issues would not be possible. If you wanted, you could coat the pins with dielectric grease part # 11755 but a cover is not available separately nor is it needed.

  • How to Protect Bulldog Winch Quick Connectors for Winch Wiring on a Truck
The Bulldog Winch quick connectors # BDW20047 themselves do not have any sort of cover to protect them from the elements. But what you could do is modify mounting box # RP74641 and that will help protect them. There is no one place that you have to mount the connectors. You can mount them in a place that works best for you. We do sell 10 gauge wire. I recommend # 10-2-1 since it is 2 wires in 1 sheath. It is sold by the foot so if you needed 20 feet you would put 20 in the quantity box.

  • How to Power an Electric Trailer Winch from a Tow Vehicle
There are a few different ways that you could wire up an electric winch to your truck, even if the winch is mounted on a trailer. I do not recommend wiring it to the trailer connector wiring because winches draw a lot of power and trailer wiring is too small to handle that kind of current. The weight capacity of your winch is a function of both motor capacity/wiring gauge, and also its gear train. If your winch uses 2 gauge wiring then you can use this connector # BDW20133.
