Butyl tape is an essential tool for weatherproofing marine and RV components. This sturdy material creates a long-lasting, weatherproof gasket to fill gaps between your RV's outer hull and the mounting points for vents, windows, and doors.

Features:

  • Butyl tape functions as a gasket for a weatherproof seal when mounting RV or marine components
    • Sticks to the underside of mounting brackets and installation points before pressing into place on your RV or boat
    • Provides for greater protection from the elements than using sealant alone
    • Prevents the intrusion of moisture into nail or screw holes
  • Adhesive works on most nonporous materials including roofing membranes and metal
    • Won't crack, harden, or shrink
    • Can be applied in temperatures from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F
  • Easy to use - press tape firmly to first surface, remove backing, and then press onto second surface for an even seal
    • Applies best to clean and dry surfaces
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 1 roll
  • Dimensions: 20' long x 1" wide x 3/16" thick
  • Application temperature range: -5 F - 120 F
  • Colors may vary
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.

Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

I used this under the mounting brackets for my solar expansion on my RV. Great stuff! Highly recommend.

by:

The butyl tape worked perfectly sealing a leaky window.

by:

Good quality butyl tape. etrailer.com has friendly service with good follow up on orders.

by:

Turned out 1" wide when I thought it was 1/4" but is a quality butyl tape

by:

Easy to use, I put in a new roof vent and fan. Still sealing and no leaks.

by:

Great service

by:

Good roll. It was packaged well and was fresh and soft.

by:

Worked very well to easily and securely seal the light fixture.

Seal is watertight and secure after a lot of miles of travel.

by:

This stuff worked great for sealing my new awning arms to the coach.

by:

Product is awesome. However the way it was packaged made the product unusable so it wasn’t shipping problems it is packaging problems.

by:

I used this butyl tape for marine application. It's butyl tape plain and simple. Seals deck and port light fittings as expected. Fair price for the product.

by:

Very sticky! I actully went around the vent opening twice. Very flexible, I was able to mold it around the corners so there is only one seam, which I was able to smoosh togethter so there is no chance of water getting through.

by:

Worked as advertised and shown on [onine videos]

by:

I changed out the OEM bathroom fan with a Maxxair variable speed fan and used this tape for sealing the surface on the roof. It worked wonderfully!

by:

Does it's job well

by:

Product was as described.

All perfect!

by:

Works great

by:

Used it under brackets to seal screw holes through the roof when installing a solar panel on our trailer. Does what it is supposed to do. Comes in a 20' roll where we only needed about 8" of it. Oh well, now we have plenty if there is further need for weatherproofing.

by:

i am very happy with this product and any other purchases I've made in the past on this site for our camper. I can always count on etrailer for anything im looking for !!! thanks so much for everything.

by:

Used this tape on some replacement skylights. It’s a little tricky to get on as it is not rigid. I found cutting to length prior to applying worked best for me. I found that in the end it was very forgiving.

by:

Overall it was good. The only issue was the shipping. I paid for 3 to 5 day shipping and according to your tracker it wasn't Evan pulled from the shelves till after 5 days of the order and I received the order 5 days after that. One on the items in the shipment was stuck to the box and needed a little protection. (pic included)

by:

Reasonably priced and shipped quickly

etrailer support has been great !

  • Recommended Black Solera Slide Out Awnings For An 86 And 117 Flange To Flange Measurement
For a 117" measurement you would need the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000182037 to get the black fabric. For the 86" measurement you would need part # Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000168106. I recommend picking up some butyl tape # AL28FJ to prevent water from leaking into the walls of your trailer through the mounting screws.

  • Recommended Replacement For An Atwood GCH10A-4E RV Water Heater
I still recommend the Furrion water heater but you may need to choose a different door size with it to fully cover your current cutout hole. The specs I'm seeing for the Atwood GCH10A-4E show it being 16" W x 15.5" T so you could possibly get away with using the # FR98SR, which comes 16" x 16" door. I recommend double checking with your tape measure and if you feel it won't fully cover the gap or maybe the old door stuck out just a bit further and you don't want to have a wear line showing...

  • Replacement Doors For Furrion Tankless Water Heaters For Larger Openings
Yes, you can unscrew the old 16" x 16" door and swap it out with the Replacement Access Door for Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - 18" x 18" # FR73FR. We also carry a 16" x 18" door # FR63FR if the 18" x 18" is too large. I do highly recommend using some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back of the door over the screw holes to form a watertight seal between it and the wall of your RV.

  • Determining The Correct Slide Out Awnings For A Travel Trailer With Flange To Flange Measurements
For the 153-5/8" flange measurement you'll need the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning - Black # LCV000168109 or white # LCV000163300. For the 83-1/4" flange measurement we currently only carry a white option # LCV000163287. You'll want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ to form a watertight seal on your mounting brackets as well. I've attached a short video below where I'll walk you through the installation process.

  • Recommended Replacement For An Atwood G6A-8E RV Water Heater
Since Atwood is no longer in business and all newer water heater models have transitioned to a smaller cutout you're not going to be able to reuse your current door and will have to make modifications to the cutout hole in order to mount a new unit. Since everything will be covered by a new access door it doesn't have to be pretty but you will need to frame in a new space within your current cutout hole for a new unit to mount onto. I recommend going with the Furrion RV Tankless Water...

The exterior ladders that we offer, like the Surco Exterior RV Ladder # SP502L you referenced, are all universal-fit designs that can be cut to fit. To ensure that this would be the correct size you'll want to measure from the starting point of the ladder near the ground to the top of the motorhome and then add an extra 8" for the bend that sits above the roof. If you find you have a larger measurement than 76" then you'll likely need to use a longer option like the Stromberg Carlson Exterior...

  • Can The Controller From A Dometic A&E Awning Be Used On A Solera RV Awning
Your Dometic awning controller isn't going to be compatible with a Solera Awning and the Solera XL 12V Power RV Awning # LCV000334966-362243 is going to come with its own control switch that you would need to install. Most likely your mounting holes won't line up between the two models so you'll want to pick up some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 to fill in the old holes and prevent any leaks. You'll also want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back side of the new mounting brackets...

The Solera 18V Power RV Awning # LC729505 is designed to bolt to the side of the RV so you would be making new holes in your motorhome's walls. You'll just need to ensure that the awning arms aren't going to interfere with anything on the side of your motorhome (doors, windows, etc.). The 18' length is from the center of one arm to the center of the other arm (pictured below). The arms are approximately 3" wide so you'll want to do some measuring to ensure the arms are not going to contact...

  • What Are The Actual Widths Of Solera Awning Fabrics
Yes, the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000168106 is 91" wide by 48" long, but is designed to fit slide out flange to flange measurements of 86" - 91". This means if you measure from the outside of one flange to the outside of the other flange and you fall within this grouping then it will be a fit. You will want to have about 5-7" of clearance on each side for the arms to be able to retract back against the body of the trailer when the slide out is retracted back in. If you do not have...

  • Recommended Replacement For An Atwood MPD 93756 RV Water Heater
Atwood unfortunately went out of business some time ago so you'll be looking at modifications to your gas and water line placement and possibly to your cutout hole as well. You might be able to find a replacement tank, but you'd likely be buying it secondhand. From what I can find on the Atwood MPD 93756 it's 12.5" tall x 16" wide so you'd most likely have to frame in the width a bit to mount a new water heater since as time goes on they keep getting smaller. Everyone is going tankless...

Most RV water heaters were quite a bit larger than the newer tankless models so you'll be able to swap out your current unit but will likely have to make some modifications to mount the smaller unit in place and cover the gap. The Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater # LSB44FR would be a compatible replacement option, but I've dealt with too many issues to with this unit to really recommend it to anyone. Instead I recommend the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR. This is also going...
