Recommended Replacement For An Atwood GCH10A-4E RV Water Heater

Question:

I gave Kevin the wrong information on my current water heater....its an Atwood GCH10A4E. While looking at the specs Kevins initial recommended replacement looks good bit I just wanted to check before I order!

I still recommend the Furrion water heater but you may need to choose a different door size with it to fully cover your current cutout hole. The specs I'm seeing for the Atwood GCH10A-4E show it being 16" W x 15.5" T so you could possibly get away with using the # FR98SR, which comes 16" x 16" door.

I recommend double checking with your tape measure and if you feel it won't fully cover the gap or maybe the old door stuck out just a bit further and you don't want to have a wear line showing from where the original door was then you could size up to the # FR48SR (16" x 18") or # FR68SR (18" x 18").

Don't forget to get some butyl tape # AL28FJ and non-sag sealant # AL28KV to use along the mounting flange to form a proper watertight seal. I've seen multiple trailers where they haven't and water gets through and bubbles out the wall. To get a really nice line with the sealant you can outline the door with some painter's tape about a 1/4" out and pull it right after you wipe your finger through the sealant.
