Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Units fit well, drums are made in China, but I expected that given they are $100 less than the dexter units (who knows maybe dexter is made in China also). They did take a beating in delivery, one bearing was popped out (still in the bag) and all 4 rear grease seals popped out as well, but no damage to the actual assembly... I gave the 4 stars due to the China part..

by:

Sales rep all but guaranteed these were made in the USA by Dexter for etrailer, CHINA is cleverly hidden INSIDE the drum. They are not made in the USA, but CHINA doesn’t ALWAYS mean junk. Time will tell, but the last set of China drums were destroyed in one year. 2012 Ram factory controller set at 3.5 empty, 6.5 loaded around 9k. 20’ enclosed car trailer.

The reason that it gets confusing, is because some of the parts are manufactured in China, while they are assembled here in the USA.

by:

So far so good! Very easy to install. I put them on my 2013 ice castle and have driven roughly 800 miles on them so far and everything is working great.

by:

Works great, perfect fit and easy replacement. Thanks. Dan

by:

This is a great product. I purchased the entire hub assembly for only a few dollars more than the parts needed to repair my old hub . Great pricing! The product arrived as scheduled. It fit perfectly. I will buy from them again. I recommend them to anyone looking for high quality parts at a good price.

by:

The prepacked wheel bearings saved a lot of time and made the job easy.

by:

My go to for Dexter brake parts!!

by:

Fit like a glove.

by:

Exactly what I needed and easy install.

by:

Packaging is horrible , one came in a completely different box all taped up , and another poking through the box that is scratched and dinged up

Oh no! I will have our Customer Service team contact you.

by:

I just received the two boxes of drums that I'm going to use to put brake on both axles. The UPS delivery driver said that one of the boxes was beat up and there may have been parts lost. It was packed with plastic cap over the outside bearing that prevented the bearing from coming out. GOOD job! Now if you can get away from "made in china" I'd be a lot happier. Additional cost of made in AMERICA for be worth it.

by:

Hub and drum are great. Would have given 5 stars, but poor packaging and rough shipping led to the hub penetrating the box and the dust cover was lost through the hole.

by:

The description didn't say it came with ezlube grease caps. I bought them separately but turns out they were included. Now i get to return them.

by:

Exactly as described. Easy to install!

these hub and bearing kits come a fair price..easy to install..and made my trailer rebuild safe and useful for years to come..would purchase again,,if needed for another trailer restoration...

the hub and bearing kits are still working fine, serviced and bearings still look new, thanks

by:

I have received 4 hubs and they were delivered Undamaged. I’ve installed 3 thus far. They fit perfectly. As soon as I get the forth one installed I’ll take the trailer out and test them. So far so good.

Good. Went on a trip last year after installing the the hubs. 24000 miles and 5 months. They performed great.

by:

This is a Spare Hub for my Car/Equipment trailer .When not if you have a bearing Failure just change the Hub, no need to try to beat gaulded bearing Races out on the side of the Road !! But if its a easy Bearing Change they are included with this Kit .

by:

It replaced the old drum and hub, electric brake assemblies, it was an exact fit. The outer bearing race was loose in the old hub drum assembly, that was the reason of my repair endeavor. I am very happy with the service I received from Etrailer.com... Thanks George J. for your effort in getting the replacement parts to me. I am considering doing right side of my axle for the sake of uniformity, as am writing this review!

by:

Very well made. Good fit and installed easily. Comes with new grease caps and lug nuts. Used these in conjunction with new brake assemblies. No problems and performs well. Would recommend these to anyone.

by:

Trailer hub and drum assemblies purchased to replace original units on a 2002 tandem wheel boat trailer. The assemblies were quality units that fit perfectly, installation was easy.

by:

Came as described!

by:

Nothing fancy, but exactly what I needed to replace the trailer hubs on the trailer. Have pulled the trailer close to a 1,000 miles and no problems. Thanks etrailer for the great products.

by:

Had a shipping problem. Was resolved quickly and item replaced. Excellent customer service!!

by:

Haven't put them on yet but everything matched up except the rear bearing and seal. I have an older trailer and the axels are different the old bearing still fit just fine in the hub. The delivery time was very impressive. When I get the trailer done I'll post some picks.

by:

Shipped free to my door which was nice since I didn’t have to lug them around. One seal came wrecked which Etrailer promptly replaced at no charge to me despite being a few days beyond normal reporting of defective items. Great customer service!

Thanks for the information on your hub. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 5,200-lb Axles - 12" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-5UC3 is the direct replacement from that manufacturer. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb Axles - 12" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 # AKHD-655-6-K will have the same bearings but will use a slightly different grease seal. • Can Oil Bath Hub be Converted to Grease Hub
From a hub point of view the only difference between one designed for oil bath or grease is the dust cap. The oil bath hubs have a threaded cap and the grease a press in cap. As long as you end up with the correct threaded Bearing Buddy size on your hub you'd be totally fine to replace the oil with grease. You'd just need to tell me the diameter of your trailer hub bore where the cap installs and I'll be able to get you the correct BB if available. For example, if you have a diameter that...

I would be happy to go over an option for you, but based on the axle tag you provided your axle is pretty short at only 77.5" hub face to hub face so we do not have a 5200lb standard axle that would work as our shortest 5200lb axle is 86-1/2" long. One option is to have an axle custom built to exactly match your current axle, you would need to go to a local axle shop for this. • How to Determine Correct Axle Capacity for Brake Replacement
The information you've provided is a good start to narrowing down what size axle you have. The GVWR of 9055-lbs on tandem axles tells me they are likely either 5200-lb or 6000-lb axles. The bolt pattern of 6 x 5.5 is also consistent with that, as is knowing that the drums are 8-201 (which are for the 5200-lb/6000-lb axles).
