Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

Toyota Highlander

Just a heads up for Toyota Highlander owners. My Highlander had the towing package from the factory but I still needed the converter and wiring harness combo etrailer package.

by:

Excellent service. Quick arrival of products. Installed after watching their videos and one was very helpful since I was having a problem and the video showed me the correct way . Highly recommend the products and video search and the instruction.

Item was as described and easy to install, thanks to the detailed instructions- written and video.

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

This wiring harness was a huge time-saver over wiring things manually like we did for our last trailer hitch a long-long-long time ago! If you're not sure what to buy, watch the videos they have to make sure you get the correct one for your needs. We saved a HUGE amount of money over what the auto dealer quoted us for the exact same thing, and as a bonus, the how-to videos made it really easy to attach it ourselves. Yes, it really -is- that easy.

Joanne got things going in a very timely manner and I got my purchase 3 days early.

2012 highlander had factory tow package. This harness mounted in fine to the factory plug in the back but there was no power at the connector. After some research I found that I still needed to go to the dealer and purchase a $100 towing converter that plugs in under the dash on the left side.

It sounds like your 2012 Toyota Highlander didnt come with the factory tow package and that you would have needed part # C56217. It includes the additional wiring component that installs under the dash to complete towing circuit.

by:

Thank you for the great service..

Good product delivered quickly

by:
2015 Toyota Highlander

Great ordering and quick delivery. Product was just as described and super easy to install. Just a little disapoited in the wireharness that was available as it does not have a bracket to clamp to the hitch and will need to be replpaced. Make sure to order the correct one.

easy install...pretty cut and dry / plug and play

2012 Toyota Highlander

***READ THIS*** Great product, easy install *BUT* This might help someone else. I called the dealer and found that my 2012 Toyota Highlander has the " V-6 Towing Prep Package" I had assumed that was the factory towing package, I was wrong. Save yourself the trouble and physically look under the dash for the white connector as well, if nothing (no converter) is plugged into it, you will need the other wiring kit with the converter. [one of etrailer.com videos] clearly shows the connector I'm talking about on a 2012 Highlander I have now ordered the correct part. I am still very happy doing business with etrailer.com Thanks!

by:

Perfect fit and the instructional video was excellent!

by:

The product is amazing. I will say that the company that installed the hitch did not hook the lights up correctly and they trailer lights still do not work. It has nothing to do with the product. I am hoping that I will be able to take it back and get it fixed next week.

parts arrived ahead of schedule and in good order. Had it installed locally by a professional and am very pleased with the results, thank you! Order included: Draw Tite hitch receiver / tongue kit with 2 drop/raise sizes & 2 ball sizes / wiring, wire tester / for 2008 Highlander.

by:

Was easy to install. The original was broken from someone hitting it. The replacement is not mounted on the outside but left in the storage space until needed.

Still working. I installed it and store in the area under the back mat. I believe thats the best because its not exposed to the weather. Id buy it again if needed as I saved a ton of $$ by doing it myself.

by:

We couldn't recommend this product highly enough. It was SO much more affordable than having a dealership install theirs. It was very easy to install as well. My husband, who is not overly familiar with cars, installed it with ease by himself.
Thank you etrailer for providing such a great product.

2019 Toyota Highlander

Very pleased with the trailer hitch. Very easy installation and directions were excellent. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a after market hitch. The wire harness worked like a champ. The whole job looks great.

by:

Don't buy from car dealer, this is the same connector for a lot better price, and I didn't have to sport a face diaper to get it. etrailers is the best source out there. I recommend them all the time.

by:

Exactly as ordered , professionally packed and promptly delivered ahead of schedule!

by:
2008 Toyota Highlander

Easy install, but I didn't want to leave it in the cargo compartment. There was a rubber plug right there in the well with the pigtail - just cut a slice half-way cut through the plug, put the wire in the cut, then fed out for zip to the new hitch..

by:

I bought the trailer hitch and required parts for my husband for Christmas. I had them install this week. All necessary parts were included and the dealership had no difficulty with the installation. Thank you.

by:
2008 Toyota Highlander

Received the wiring harness and did not realize that I needed to order the wiring harness for the front under dash, everything else looks great....very happy with the trailer hitch.

Etrailer lived up to their word keeping their promise to give a $10. credit to us for paint. Delivery was fast and prices were better than others. Hitch fit like a glove with no issues.

  • Carrying a 520 Pound Motorcycle With a 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
I have a solution for you, however your 2010 Toyota Highlander won't be able to handle the weight of the carrier plus the weight of the motorcycle on a traditional hitch carrier like part # SMC600 because its tongue weight capacity just isn't high enough. When you use a non-trailer load, all of the weight, accessory plus cargo, is directly applied to the tongue weight, so you'll quickly exceed your limit. I recommend instead using a small trailer like the Detail K2 Mighty Utility Trailer,...

Some hitch receivers for the 2016 Toyota Highlander did not allow the full size spare tire to be stored underneath the vehicle where it is intended. However, with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13394 it isn't a problem. This is a Class III, 2 inch hitch receiver. I've attached an install video for you. If your customer also needs a wiring harness it will depend on if they have the factory tow package or not. If they do the Highlander will have a converter...

Good news! I can help you pick out the correct hitch and wiring for your 2008 Toyota Highlander that will be compatible with your LED trailer lights. The trailer hitch that I recommend for your 2008 Toyota Highlander is the # 75726, because of the higher weight capacity and the fact that you will still be able to store your spare tire under the vehicle. This trailer hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening which will be compatible with more accessories. The wiring harness you will want is...

  • 2014 Highlander XLE Trailer Wiring Recommendation

  • Installing 7-Way Trailer Connector so It Doesnt Get Destroyed Backing out the Driveway
Here's what I'd recommend. If you have an exposed portion of the hitch crossbar to work with, use the # 18136 no drill bracket. This fastens to the hitch crossbar using an included pipe clamp. You'll also use the # PK12711U 7-way mounting bracket. I'd begin by mounting the trailer connector to the # PK12711U, so that the mounting flange is at the bottom. Then, attach that to the # 18136 but just leave it finger tight for the moment. Put the # 18136 up against the underside of the hitch...
