Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2016 Toyota Highlander with Full Size Spare Tire

Question:

I have a customer with a 2016 Toyota Highlander LE Plus AWD that wants us to install a trailer hitch on his vehicle. It has a full size spare tire and so Im being told that a standard hitch will not fit. Can you give me any additional information and a quote on a trailer hitch assembly that will work. Thank you.

Some hitch receivers for the 2016 Toyota Highlander did not allow the full size spare tire to be stored underneath the vehicle where it is intended. However, with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13394 it isn't a problem. This is a Class III, 2 inch hitch receiver. I've attached an install video for you.

If your customer also needs a wiring harness it will depend on if they have the factory tow package or not. If they do the Highlander will have a converter under the dashboard and they can use the Curt # 56042 which plugs in behind the interior trim panel on the driver's side in the rear cargo area. If they don't have the tow package use Curt # C56217 which connects the same way but also includes the converter to install under the dash and the necessary fuse.
