Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpeting.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

2000 Chevrolet Silverado

I had purchased and used the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller on my 2000 Silverado with good results. When I got a new-to-me 2104 Silverado, I thought I could just buy a new cable and I was correct. It was delivered quickly and plugged in with no issues. The new truck's lower dash panel is more vertical than the older truck and I didn't want to drill holes in it for the mount, so I purchased heavy duty Velcro tape and cut it to fit. It has worked without issues.

FAST SHIPPING!! Great products!!!,
I highly recommend purchasing from etrailer!! Easy to put together and install only takes minutes!! I'm using these products to pull a 30ft travel trailer and it does a GREAT job! Hooking up the distribution bars is so fast and easy they just slide in and your done, and the brake controller automatically sees your trailer and saves your settings, so you don't have anything else to do!!

Perfect fit. Allowed me to transfer my break controles from my Pathfinder to my GMC.

I do wish it was a few inches longer, I could had ran the wires a bit cleaner up under the dash.

Smooth control. Brake action is easily adjustable while on the road. Display is clear and easily read. Very happy with this controller.

Simple plug and play for 2019 Tahoe. Instructions were adequate and took 5 mins to install. Works great so far with the prodigy brake controller.

by:
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Received the wiring harness and bracket for the brake controller quicker than thought. Though there was a lack of instructions enclosed I found explanations on line on Etrailer site that detailed installation. The only thing missing was though the wiring harness fit, it did not snap into place. Not sure if that is correct or not. Products performed without any complications though. I would recommend these pieces to others.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD

The wiring adapter I ordered was easy to install by following the included instructions! It is vehicle specific ,so I ordered one that fits my 2019 silverado 1500.It plugged into the 4 prong receptacle inside the block box under the dash to the left of the brake pedal against the fire wall. The other end plugged into the brake controller that I ordered(the wire adapter fits several different brands) I installed the Kenosha Primus IQ. Both items had concise, clear instructions with them. After finishing the install I plugged in the travel trailer and set the the brake controller by the instructions and it is working great! The install took me about 20 minutes.

The Tekonsha P3 is an outstanding controller. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a good for a user friendly controller with nice options. It looks great in my 2014 Silverado. Buying from etrailer was awesome. I suggest getting the wiring harness made specifically for your truck as well. Thanks etrailer.

I was in a bit of a spot and needed a trailer braking system in a hurry for my 2018 GMC Sierra pickup. After looking around at all the local automotive shops and part stores in the area... I was at my wit's end as no one that I spoke with had any information as to whether or not the unit they had would work for my truck. So I jumped online as it was getting down to crunch time and I needed the unit as I was to pick up the travel trailer and a couple of days. I went online and found etrailer.com
After very little research and a quick phone call to tech support... they knew exactly what I needed along with the adapter cord that plugs right into the fuse panel. It took me all of 10 minutes to install the unit and it works phenomenal. Also due to the amount of time I had to get the unit and get it installed they expedited the shipping and I had it the next day. These folks know exactly what they're doing and what you need and will not disappoint. I have never had an easier and more pleasurable installation of an aftermarket product. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you very much again a very satisfied customer. I purchased the Primus IQ which is a proportional braking system and again it came with a harness that went right into the fuse panel in my truck. The instructions were easy to follow and a unit works very very well. As I said 10 minutes to put it in at the most. Great job guys thanks again.

After visiting with the sales professional at etrailer.com they were able to get me exactly the harness I needed that fit my brand new GMC 2021 pickup that made it up to the V brake controller they know what theyre doing this gentleman that I talked with did a phenomenal job of pairing up with what I needed and it went in without a hitch

by:

The Tekonsha plug in wiring adapter works perfectly. I could not be more pleased. Thank you.

by:

Too short to mount your brake controller where you want it? The parts you needed to make it longer were right in front of you. I bought this adapter harness along with the Prodigy P3, which also came with it's own harness and attached pigtails. Cut off controller connection on the 3016, and wired up the supplied pigtail harness that came in the P3 box. Took 10 minutes and I had myself plenty of extra length. Have not installed it yet but it looks simple enough with the video tutorial that eTrailer has available.

by:

I'm in the process of getting a larger trailer to haul my vintage tractors on and needed a brake controller. After reading the reviews I decided on the P3, can't wait to give it a try. Installation was a breeze, like other reviewers mentioned it took longer to decide where I wanted it than the actual installation.

by:

Looks like this thing was dropped a few times which damaged the paint but I guess oh well when you're short on time you just have to deal with it.

by:

Worked as intended.

by:

It was a direct fit and worked flawlessly. etrailer delivers quality products and service. Which is hard to find.

by:

One of the easiest additions I’ve done. 15 minutes maybe.

by:

Easy to install. Only left is to hook up the trailer. 15 minute install. Very easy with the wiring harness.

by:
2015 Chevrolet Silverado

The products works just as marketed. Installation took only 15 minutes on my 2014 Silverado. I'm very happy with this purchase.

  • What Parts Are Needed To Swap a Tekonsha Prodigy Trailer Brake Controller To a 2023 GMC Yukon?
The same Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016 which fits your 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe can be used on your 2023 GMC Yukon. We do have the mounting brackets for the Prodigy # P7685, Prodigy P2 # 7686 and Prodigy P3 # TK5906 brake controllers which will make swapping the controller from vehicle to vehicle easier.

Yes, we have quite a few options when it comes to a brake controller for your 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. I have attached a link to those for you. My personal recommendation would be for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195. The P3 is a proportional controller which activates immediately and in proportion to the brakes in your truck. Assuming that your 1500 is equipped with the factory tow package, you will just need a wiring adapter, which is also included in the link,...

This harness can be used to connect any of a range of Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers including the popular and reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885 to the under-dash port on your truck. The high-value P2 offers a great mix of features, ease of use and rock-solid reliability. I have linked a video showing installation in a 2013 Silverado.

This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. It is very possible that Pro Series weight distribution system # 49570 will be too heavy for your trailer. But there is a 750 pound tongue weight version, # PS49582.
