Weight Distribution and Brake Controller for a 2014 Chevy Silverado and 6500 Pound Trailer
Question:
I like the kit comes with everything you need the problem is the camper I am looking at will have a shipping weight of around 4800 with a GVWR of 6,000 to 6500. This system seems a little more heavy duty than I need but I need everything. I already have a hitch rated for 12,000 and my 2014 Silverado has the round 7 pin hook up but I use the round to 5 flat adapter for my boat. So I need the complete hitch and brake controller. Thanks

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
It is very possible that Pro Series weight distribution system # 49570 will be too heavy for your trailer. But there is a 750 pound tongue weight version, # PS49582. This is going to be a better option provided the total tongue weight is less than 750 pounds.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885 with wiring harness # 3016. The P2 is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. I have included a link to the right showing how the controller installs on a 2014 Chevy Silverado.
