Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I ordered the hitch and it works great. I installed it myself (2014 Prius V) but I did have a hard time finding the correct bolts for it. I thought it came with bolts but it did not. Make sure you have the correct hitch for your car and the necessary installation items, including a torque wrench, before you attempt installation.

Another thing is the 1 14 receiver limits the racks you can use with it. I wish it had a 2 receiver.

by:

I would give this 5 stars but for two small areas of chipped powder coat. If left untreated these will rust, so I will g3t some black nail polih and touch up.

Easy install. Great fit. Works perfectly. Hidden behind bumper except for the receiver itself.
I use for a platform bike rack.
Only complaint is that there is a little wiggle room in the receiver, so rack bounces around a bit, but that’s the case with all hitches, so no star deduction.

product worked great. Instructions could be clearer, especially where to cut. etrailer staff are awesome. This is the second hitch I've purchased for a prius, based on their recommendation and I'm not disappointed. I will go to etrailer in the future.

Perfect fit for 2015 Prius V. Quite stealthy.
Unable
to self install as I lacked exhaust hanger tool. But trailer rental place did it for $48 w/o wiring.
Your wire kit is vehicle specific and better than theirs and I did that part.
Will use it to pull light trailer with train modules to shows or bicycle rack.

2012 Prius
Easy enough installation
on a lift. Needed some longer 12mm x 1.25 bolts - but no big deal.

I chose this hitch because it is flush with the bumper, just as others have reported.

by:

this hitch fit perfectly on my 2017 Prius V. My wife and I are 72 years old and we put it in and wired it together. This is our second install. The first draw-tite was on our 2004 Corolla. All went well. We are just getting too old to be crawling around on the floor!

RE: 24967 The original/factory M12-1.25 x ~28 mm long bolts not really long enough on muffler side. I ended up cutting off washers off the factory bolts to get a few more mm threaded. Would have been nice if the kit had included longer (4) M12-1.25 x ~32 mm bolts.

Also, the trim diagram was pretty imprecise where the hitch receiver drops through.

Otherwise, its a great design!

Works great. I like this design because the cross bar is hidden mostly under the trim in my 2013 prius.

by:
Toyota Prius

The hitch looks well built. Installation was smooth, the bolt holes matched perfectly. After mounting the hitch, i had to trim alittle more of the plastic cover to make it fit, but a sharp box cutter does that easily. I like that the cross member is hidden and only the receiver is exposed. Bought this to mount a bike rack to the prius, and am very happy with the results. Thanks, Dave

How is my product working after one year? Well, no bikes have fallen off.

by:
2015 Toyota Prius

This hitch receiver fit right onto my 2015 Prius. A Prius is absolutely NOT recommended for towing trailers, so this hitch and ball provide rear end protection and an emergency recovery anchor point as needed. It's also nice to have a bar of solid steel across the underside of the back of the car.
I have used the center of this hitch platform to jack up the back end of the car. I also step on top of the hitch ball on multiple occasions in order to gain a little height or reach.
Installation was not difficult. Only had to cut a little triangle out of the plastic underbody pan with a tin snips. Having an air impact wrench made it easy to remove the factory bolts, but I'm guessing that a breaker bar on a socket would probably suffice. (HINT: If you don't have these tools in your garage yet, get serious and buy them. They're lifetime, durable goods which will save you tons of money in your future. You won't use them every day, but you don't have to justify their purchase either. Your grandchildren will be fixing stuff with these very tools which you buy today and using the skills you will learn and then teach to them. Every machine is basically nuts and bolts. You'll see what I mean...)
Best attribute about this hitch platform is that I can remove the hitch ball tongue whenever I want to avoid any chance of bumping a shin. In a year, I have never felt the need to do so. I know it's there. The thought that careless drivers parking too close to my car will hit the trailer ball before their car touches my bumper is another reason I leave the ball tongue installed. It keeps other cars at arm's length on the road and in parking lots.
My ultimate plan is to weld up a cargo basket to slide into this hitch receiver. Being that it's only a 1" receiver opening, I will fabricate some bars which will quickly attach to the ends of the receiver hitch frame to help balance the small loads that I will set in the hitch basket. These loads will be light weight, stinky/dirty things which I don't want to transport inside the car like trash/recycle containers, 5-gallon gas can, etc.
I can fully recommend this hitch frame to anyone with a standard 2015 Prius.

2015 Toyota Prius

Great trailer hitch! Works well on my 2015 Plug-in Prius. You do have to do a little cutting out to get it to fit, but it's worth it. Solid, stable, and does well with my Kuat 2 bike rack.

I had an excellent previous experience installing a hitch from eTrailer on my Acura RSX. But, unfortunately, I didn't watch the at the installation videos to put this Draw-Tite hitch on my Toyota Prius until after the hitch arrived. It's pretty involved! When they got to dropping the rear part of the exhaust system I had to turn it off. Scared me enough that I haven't taken the hitch out of the box yet. I'll bet it's a great product and maybe I'll give the installation a try when I've got a few free hours....

2015 Toyota Prius

I bought the Draw-Tite Sportframe receiver hitch for Christmas, for my daughter, mainly to be used for her bike rack. I installed it for her on her 2015 Prius V. It was a perfect fit and a very easy installation. High quality product, and very efficient ordering and delivery from eTrailer.com. This is my second purchase from eTrailer, with my first experience being just as good as this one.

by:

The construction is great and hitch is solid. Installation was straightforward but did take some finesse. It helped that I had a friend that worked on cars so I had ramps and access to the right tools. Our bike rack mounts really nicely now!

by:
2012 Toyota Prius v

Good trailer hitch and fairly simple to install. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the bolts that you need. One of the bolts that they instruct you to reuse wasn't long enough and I had to go on a wild goose chase to purchase a longer one. All the videos regarding trailer hitches share that you will also receive new bolts for the install.

by:
2013 Toyota Prius v

Good product, just as described. Aligned and fit my car perfectly. The video was very helpful.

The one comment is there was an aluminum foil heat shield between my muffler and gas tank. In order to make the hitch fit I had to modify around the mounting point. No big deal because it was easy to temporarily bend out of the way. This is worth mentioning because it was not mentioned in the video.
Yes I would buy again!

by:
2010 Toyota Prius

Awesome product, newer hidden design which is comparable to another Company hitch that cost twice as much. My Prius V does not have a plastic cover so no trimming to deal it.
One thing I suggest is on the exhaust side, the two mounting bolt that are suppose to be reuse to secure the hitch become shorter due to the added thickness. My Machanic worried that might give it less strength so he went and got me two longer bolts and not reuse the original. Notice these bolts from Toyota has 4 lines marking on top, that mean it is a grade 8 bolt, if you gonna replace it, it should that grade or stronger. I use grade 10 bolts. Overall a very good hitch with great value.

by:

This is my second hitch. The first one was not the hidden hitch. Installation was easy, but it does require the extra work to cut out the hole for the hitch to swing under the bumper. I use this to tow small utility trailers, a teardrop, or to carry my bike. Overall it's a great product.

by:
2012 Toyota Prius

The hitch works great and looks great. The only problem I had was cutting out the cover under the car. The pictures and directions weren't that clear. It was more of a guessing game and that probably took the longest portion of installing the hitch. It would be helpful if they cleared that up a little bit.

by:
2014 Toyota Prius

Overall excellent hitch. I love that it is entirely tucked up under the bumper. Removing the underbody panel was a bit of a pain, but that is Toyota's fault, not this product's.

Only issue was that, with the hitch in place, the existing 30mm M12x1.25 bolts were not long enough to fully engage the threads in the car on the passenger side. I could only screw them in a few turns. Not a big deal - I ordered 40mm long Class 10.9 bolts with M12 washers from Bolt Depot.

Also, the heads of the existing bolts required a 17mm socket to remove, not 19 as per the instructions.

by:
2010 Toyota Prius

etrailer.com is da bomb! That was one of the easiest shopping experiences ever! Their online parts match/fit is spot on and I couldn't find this hitch cheaper, anywhere, with free shipping...and shipping was lightening quick! I used their helpful video reviews, advice, and instruction, I nailed it!

Thank you!

by:

It was easy to install, as always etrailer provides good instructions and videos. No issues with it so far. I did buy longer mounting bolts [online] because if you reuse the ones from the Prius they are too short. fyi

by:
2012 Toyota Prius

A few other reviews mention needing longer bolts, but I had no issue with the factory bolts from the exhaust hanger and tie down hook. I also didn't remove the exhaust from the hanger. I just unbolted the metal bracket and left the rubber connectors in -place.

by:

Took me a bit longer to install than the estimate, but am happy with the result.

  • Recommend Ball Mount For Towing Light Trailer With 2014 Prius V With Draw-Tite Hitch 24967
We have not had a chance to install the Class I Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24967 but we were able to install the Draw-Tite on a 2016. The ground clearance with the hitch installed on the 2016 was 12-1/4" which will most likely be the same on your 2014 Prius V give or take if there is a tire size variance. Please keep in mind the Class I hitch is only capable of towing 200 lbs tongue weight. You will need a ball mount with at least a 1-3/4" rise if you install the...

I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24847 because it sets out slightly more than the other, providing just a little more clearance for your accessories.

The difference between a class 1 1-1/4 inch hitch and a class 2 1-1/4 inch hitch is that the class 2 has about 350 pounds of maximum tongue weight (as opposed to the class 1's 200 pounds). Some class I hitches have a stop tab inside that blocks class 2 accessories. That being said, the Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # S64683 will fit the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24967 since the Chinook is also rated to fit 1-1/4 inch class 1 trailer hitches.

The insallation is more detailed and time consuming but in the end I prefer this style. It's a much cleaner look because the cross tube is hidden behind the Toyota's bumper and all you see is the receiver tube underneath.
