Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Quality materials and construction, smooth and seamless connections, clear and straightforward instructions. Functions as expected and plenty of slack in cable.

Installed this on my 1998 4Runner because the existing wiring was pieced together and hardly worked. This kit installed easily and worked flawlessly! No issues!

Toyota 4Runner

A previous owner of my 3rd gen 4runner had spliced into the factory wiring harness. I wanted something that utilized the factory connectors. The 118341 harness was just what was needed. Also, I have been very surprised to see all the things that etrailer has available. They carry much more than trailer related things. Give their site a look on your next non trailer related project, you just might be surprised.

Used w/ a '99 4Runner. Great kit... Excellent instructions - There was nothing left for me to 'figure out', the instructions were specific to the vehicle which made it very easy. Took me about 90 mins to install w/ soldering and shrink wrapping the new connections (and adding a circuit for the license plate light).

Works great. Good quality.

Very satisfied! Works great, and installation was easy. I routed it under the trim and over the rear hatch weather stripping then under the bumper step molding. Installed a wiring protection over to the factory mounting point.

2005 Toyota Tundra

I ordered this item after I encountered a problem with safety lighting on my work trailer. I diagnosed the problem to be with the tow vehicle wiring. The vehicle is a 1997 Toyota 4Runner, so little failures of components over this much time is no surprise. The kit (#118341) was relatively easy to install and required no soldering or hacking. The plugs all snapped in to the stock wiring harness once I had removed the old module; worked the first time and have continued to work. I have by my own estimates, above average mechanical skill, but truthfully, anyone should be able to install this component with little difficulty.

Double E.

7/24/2020

The item continues to function as it should.

There are two possible wiring harnesses for trailer lights; one for vehicles without factory wiring (#118341), and one for vehicles with factory wiring (#118245). My 4Runner had the modular connector, which was found up in the wrap around bumper on the driver's side. If all you need are trailer lights, your installation is complete. In my case, I wanted to have a 7-Way connector, which would include trailer brakes.

1988 Toyota 4Runner

I thought the product I was buying was for a 88 4Runner but when I pulled the lights out to connect the electrical connectors they were the wrong ones. I just pulled the pins out of the connector and crimped the harness onto the new pin with the existing wire (if that makes any sense). All the trailer lights work so that’s cool! Just pull your lights and make sure the harness has the same plugs before buying! Proud it arrived quickly and was well packaged!

by:

Actually ended up returning this when I found the factory plugin while installing my hitch. Ordered the correct pigtail from them and they took this one back no problem. I researched all the connections on my truck and it would have done fine; just a little longer install time. Look closely for the factory plug in!

I have looked at the wirring over the past 6 months trying to get the brake lights on my trailer to work with no sucsess. I have changed to in line conections that were there but with the same result. I changed the wiring out on the trailer and new led tail lights on the rear. same result. the trailer is about 15 years old and was in need of new wires. Well let me tell you within the new wirring in about 15 mins they were all set and I had all lights working . ok and anouther 20 mins to put everthing back and sucure for another 15 years. just plug it in. Very easy Very fast Very good product. I would definetly recomend.

2012 Toyota 4Runner

Well I had an existing trailer light harness on my 97 4Runner. No telling how old it was. I got a new utility trailer and all my trailer lights came on except 1 brake light on the left. To check my current connections, I basically had to loosen back sidewall plastic in my trunk area. ( same as I would have todo to install new harness. All my vehicle tail and brake lights worked. Instead of wasting time tracking down wires and tracking them, I figured for a few bucks I will order new harness and have it handy Incase old 1 is shot. Well new 1 came super fast. I did not even disconnect the old 1. I taped it up and zip tie it to frame. I install new 1 . Whole job took me about 25 min. Once inside the plastic of my vechile trunk, which took 12 of the 25 min, it took 2 more additional min to then connect new harness. It was so easy I did not think it was going to work. Well it Works Great ! I easily ran new cable out of my trunk and through my brake light and down. Super easy ! Thank you etrailer so much! Hopefully it won’t melt, and last me another 10 years but only time will tell. For now exactly as I hoped ! If you have trailer light issue like I mention above, this is your cure ! Thanks again !

This is a service review and I give etrailer.com 5 stars for promptness and efficiency. Unfortunately, it has been raining since the trailer wiring kit for my Toyota 4-runner came in, and I have not had a chance to install it yet. That review will have to wait.

Easy to replace the original unit which died and was replaced with a lesser quality, cheaper unit which died in 3 months. This unit has been working great for the last year. Great quality and good price. You definitely get what you pay for with these units.

1998 Toyota 4Runner

As always if you need anything for trailers let etrailer be the place. I messed around trying to get trailer lights hooked up and spent boocoo bucks only to have them hooked up wrong again and again one order from etrailer it was done right thanks again!!????

by:
1998 Toyota 4Runner

Wiring was good plugs all were good. The only problem was the new plug would not fit through the hole for the old plug. I cut the cable, rand the cable then soldered the cable back together again. The other option would have been to drill a new hole for the new cable and plug. Everything works well after I was done.

I bought this to replace a Toyota-brand trailer converter with faulty output. Etrailer's unit plugged right in easily and operated properly. Cost was about 30% less than local parts store including shipping!

product was easy to install, with the connectors, but that was the end of easy. It would have been better if the product had been used by someone their. It was a hard road to find a way out of the light, but I finally found a way.

  • Does Spare Tire Need to be Moved to Install Curt Trailer Hitch on 2001 Toyota 4Runner
The spare tire doesn't need to be removed or relocated for the install of the Curt trailer hitch # C13087 on your 2001 Toyota 4Runner. I linked the installation details for you to take a look at. If you also need trailer wiring for the 4Runner I recommend # 118341 which plugs in to connectors behind the trim panels in the rear cargo area.

If you already have a 4-Way flat connector at the rear of the 4Runner, all you will need is the 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. But before installing a new harness, check the vehicle owners manual for the locations of the tow package fuses to see if any are blown/missing.
