Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 1999 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
Will this work on a 1999 Toyota 4runner Limited? I believe that I found the plug for itwhite plug plugged into a blank holder on the left side of the drivers kick panel.

If the plug that you have found is functional, you may be able to use adapter # 3040-P. You will need to test the connector with a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed to determine the functions of the plug. I have included a link to the instructions which has a diagram that should help.
If you determine the plug will not fit, you will need to hardwire in a controller. First, you will need to have a 4-Way trailer connector installed if you do not already have one using # 118341. Then you will need to install 4 and 7 way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that should help.
If the vehicle already has a 7-Way trailer connector, you will just need to hardwire the brake controller blue wire to the 7-Way. The remaining connections would be the same as in the FAQ for ETBC7 to finish installing the brake controller. An installation kit, # 5506, will be needed.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for the brake controller.
