Video Transcript for Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118267 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118267. This is the Tow Ready Nissan replacement OEM tow package wiring harness. This is a custom fit part number, it is designed to fit the 2005-2012 Nissan Frontier with the factory 7-way, 2005-2013 Nissan Extera with the factory 7-way, 2005-2012 Nissan Pathfinder with the factory tow package and also the 2009-2012 Suzuki Equator with the factory 7-way. This part number will include everything shown here on the table, the actual plug-in harness, the 7-way plug for the rear of the vehicle and some zip ties to take up any of the excess wire. This is an exact replacement for a damaged OEM wiring harness. It will install in seconds just by plugging in. It will also upgrade vehicles that have a 4-way OEM plug to the 7-way connector.

It will also connect directly to the standard OEM connector. Basically when you install this these plugs right here will 'T' into the factory OEM connector, it's usually located on these vehicles underneath the vehicle by the driver's side rear tire. Once you plug these in then you'll just run this larger plug to the very back and this would attach to the 7-way, snaps right in, and then your 7-way would be attached to the bumper of the rear of the vehicle, then it's ready for use. One other note just to mention on some of the Nissan products we have found out that some of them come with the OEM towing relay and some do not so you do want to check your fuse box to make sure you do have the relay available. If not you would have to order that separately, we do carry that on our website. That should do it for the review of part number 118267, the Tow Ready Nissan replacement OEM tow package wiring harness. .

The 7 pin was wired wrong. Need a replacement. Had to cut wires and jion them back. Plug camper in,brakes stayed on. Not allowing me to move new camper from dealership. Needing to get a replacement 7 way.

We have heard of this issue before with this harness. It sounds like that the 12 volt power and electric brake wire were switched. There are two things you can do to resolve this. You can cut the wires a few inches back from the black connector on the Tow Ready harness, switch them and butt connect them back together. If you cut them close to the black connector then the wire gauge difference will not be as much of a concern because the 12 volt power will only travel on the smaller gauge blue wire for a short distance.

by:

Out of the box the wires were soldered into the wrong pins and caused my trailer breaks to stay constantly engaged. I only got a partial refund for the part and ended up having to pay to get what should have been working out of the box fixed. After the wires were put in the proper order everything worked as advertised. It was super easy to install with all the plug and play connections. Defiantly would have given this a five star review if the customer service gave me a full refund on the part of offered to pay to have the part fixed. Ended up having to put more money into this than what I paid even with the partial refund.. Not cool

Parts allowed relocation of the trailer plug from below the bumper to beside the license plate. No more dragging off road! Cutting the hole in the bumper for the plug took a few minutes with a proper hole saw. Wiring harness supplied plugged right into my factory Nissan wiring under the truck.

by:

Works excellent for my 2012 Nissan Frontier. Near as I can tell, Nissan ran the wiring for 7 pin connectors on all Pathfinders, Xterras and Frontiers as long as you have the 4.0L motor (did this exact same part a few years back on my 2009 Xterra). What this gives you is a LOT of flexibility that a lot of other small trucks don't have. You can run powered brakes, install a cigarette lighter into the connector (really, etrailer even sells it!) and provide power to an RV trailer while towing (minimal, but it does charge the batteries. I used this as an opportunity to pull out the poorly installed aftermarket 4 pin connector that was installed with my (admittedly a good choice) Draw Tite 2" receiver hitch (was on the truck when I bought it). I drilled a hole next to the license plate with a hole saw, sealed it up with factory touch up paint and clearcoat to prevent rust, then popped the 7 pin connector in. This is how the new Dodge Ram has it, and it looks much nicer.

This item is an excellent replacement for the OEM harness for the 2013 Nissan Frontier. I replaced my harness on an Crew Cab SV Frontier. There are a couple of items to note: 1) If you are using the original mount for the harness that is already welded to the hitch, you will need to obtain another nut and bolt (or three if you want them to all look the same. I purchased three M6 x 20 Flange bolts with flange nuts). 2) You will also need to drill an additional hole at the top center of the mount and just above the right hole already drilled. As you can see in my pictures, the original mount is a cutout instead of a round hole. I have also included a picture of my before and after of the products. 3) When you push the female portion of the harness on to the mounted plug, you will have to push very hard or squeeze them very hard together until you get a click. I'm presuming everything hooked up excellently as I haven't used a meter to check the connections. The truck started up fine and using brakes and reverse didn't didn't blow any fuses. My order was shipped quickly even with a weekend order which was surprising. Package was delivered without any physical damages to the box. I rated this just shy of Excellent as I had to do some drilling and purchasing of screws to mount the replacement.

by:

The website was easy to use. The videos were helpful and let me know I was ordering the correct wire harness. Other websites show the wire harness as a 4 pin, which will only allow some of the lights to work. Also the pictures of the staff on the Web are a great touch and let me know I was not orderin from a faceless organization. The only downside is that I had a difficult time finding the bracket that would fit by vehicle ( xterra). So I picked brackets, I thought would fit, but the hitch has a lot of bends. When I got the bracket it didn't match the 7 pin connector. Only one bolt fit...I might have ordered the wrong one. Also it was hard to find a good place to mount the bracket. It might be much to ask but if the bracket was sold as a kit for new installation it might help. Though my order shipped quick and arrived quick so very pleased and will shop here again.

by:

Very easy to install! I have a 2007 Frontier Nismo off road. The reason I had to replace the harness was due to Nissan hanging the plug under the bumper. I took someone else's idea and used a 2" hole saw and mounted the new plug next to the license plate. Very simple and looks great!
I've read some complaints about the blue and black wires being in each other's spot... fortunately this won't affect me unless I upgrade.

It looks like the five H code means there is a short during idling conditions, if you have a Prodigy P two brake controller. You would want to check the connections of the seven way to check for debris or corrosion. Having it cleaned maybe the only fix you need.

by:

The Good:
-Easy to install
-Looks
good when using mounting bracket. Nice clean look.
-More convenient than the 4-way flat I had been using. I had to replace those yearly as they don't hold up to the weather and lots of use.

The Bad:
-There is a know issue with the blue/grey wires. Hooked this up to my camper that uses trailer brakes. Tow vehicle is a 2010 Nissan Xterra. The brakes were locked up and powered "On". From other reviews this has been seen before. There is even a video on how to "fix" this.

Overall I do like this. I almost always tow a smaller 2-place trailer with a 4-way flat connection so I use adaptor. Could be issues if I ever need to tow a larger trailer with brakes.

Etrailer Expert

The issue is that some Nissan trucks and SUVs have the 12-v and the brake output feed in the tow package wiring harness wired backwards. This is a fairly small percentage of the overall vehicles, but its significant enough that were definitely aware of it.

by:

I go off road a lot in the SW desert and have lost a few hitch connections going through washes. I used to have to get these OEM from a dealer but my last replacement I found the same connector components available at etrailer for much less that what the dealer charged, so decided to give this vendor a try. The quality, in my opinion, was better than dealer OEM. I installed the connector easier than the OEM piece and so far it has connected up to a variety of rental trailers the first time and every time. This is lots better than my previous experiences using factory OEM connectors. Why I do not know but better quality at less cost makes me a steady and dedicated customer of etrailer.com parts.

2/1/2019

Just like I said a year ago-works great. I have a 7 point hitch and if the trailer has an electric brake that works great also. The good thing for me is I am getting old & slowing down so have not torn off this one yet but have a pig hunt in a week so we will see! When I need another it will sure be another one of these

by:

I have placed several orders with etrailer.com and all the orders came to me as anticipated. Good customer service because their representatives know what they are talking about; they helped me match up my trailer electrical wiring components so that they work together and fit on my existing mounting holes. I will definitely order from etrailer.com the next time I need trailer stuff. They also had really reasonably priced cabin micro filters for my vehicle. Better to order all your stuff at one time if you can to get lower shipping cost, duh.

Ive had this harness on my Nissan for a year now and it works as good as the first day. No problems whatsoever. A good product all around.

by:

Fit on the bumper, easy install, looks nice.
I
installed this on my 2013 frontier, inset into the bumper, I drilled the hole and mounted it with some rivet-nuts.
Only 1 problem, the black(+12v) and blue(brakes) wires were swapped on the plug for the truck.
I was able to disassemble the connection and put the wires in the correct place. Other than that everything fits good, use plenty of silicone grease to keep connections from corroding.

Matthew

9/23/2021

update: a year later, still works perfectly, connection is good and secure and is dependable.

by:

Its a nice fit. Right amount of wire without excess hanging around. Didn't come with a mounting bracket which would have been nice since the mounting holes on the plug don't line up to the Reese bracket I already had.
Biggest problem I ran into was that the blue brake wire and black 12V supply wire were reversed in the plug. Really frustrated to find the terminals couldn't be removed from the plug body and their positions switched. Ended up cutting into a brand new harness.

Same exact thing happened to me...I was disappointed. It took me quite some time to figure it out...I wasnt sure if it was the trailer, the brake controller, or what

This is a known problem this wiring harness on the vehicle side connection point of the plug. Due to the inconsistencies of which specific vehicles this wiring effects, we have not been able to formulate a solution other that exactly what you did. At this time re-wiring the connector is the best option.

Bj

12/8/2014

Same issue, the charge and brake were reversed on the wiring harness. We ended up switching them in order to work with the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder.

by:

I bought the harness and used it for a while but there seems to be a loose wire or two as the trailer brakes won't engage when plugged in. I ended up buying a factory harness instead

The employees are fantastic and the product quality appears to be good as well. My problem is that this item #118267 says it's a guaranteed fit for my 2009 Nissan Pathfinder w/ factory 4-flat. Even the expert (Jeffrey L) said verbatim that "since you have the factory 4-way connector on your 2009 Pathfinder, you can use a 7-way connector like part #118267". However, this part number is NOT plug and play and is not compatible with the 2009 Pathfinder with factory 4-flat. Once I got the package in the mail it says RIGHT ON THE PACKAGE "2008-2012 Nissan Pathfinder ALL (except w/ factory 4-flat connector". So the expert is incorrect and the website is as well. This item WILL NOT fit a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder w/ 4-flat connector. Not to mention, I paid for overnight shipping and really needed this item. It did arrive in less than 24 hours which was outstanding. Overall I am impressed with etrailer and I will order again, but this particular information and item # needs to be corrected.

on my 2007 Nissan Frontier the 2 pole black and blue were reversed. Removed the terminals and re-installed them. Thanks e-trailer for the tip and great customer service. I see another post a 2008 Pathfinder had the same issue Pathfinder, Frontier, Xterra are basicly the same car So the question is........ is it the car harness or the aftermarket 7 pole harness wires reversed?

Patrick B.

10/18/2013

We are working on this and will have more complete information soon. We are working to source some vehicles for testing so we can be sure the information is accurate.

by:

When I received the part the brake controller wire and 12 volt power wires were reversed. As the unit is a plug and play adapter it took a significant amount of time to determine what was wrong. Originally when I plugged my trailer into the installled 7 pin adapter my brakes locked soild and I was not getting 12 volt power tommy trailer. After a lot of work using a test light I had to read-wire the harness to make it work. Troubleshooting the problem took several hours.

by:

Cable kit was easy to install and worked seamlessly with the same relays I had installed for the 4-pin connector kit. The salesperson was great, as she steered my to only purchase the 7-pin connector and cable kit instead of the full kit with relays...saving me lots of money.

by:

2 of the wires were flipped in position during assembly (Poor factory quality control). Did not match the included wiring diagram and I had to manually switch them myself. Other then that the harness has been working fine.

by:

Great plug and play unit. Drilled a hole next to my plate for a clean install. One thing to note, and this is by no means the products fault, some Frontiers had their power and brake wires switched on the factory harness. Be sure to test with a light or multi meter. Mine was switched. Nice thing about this harness as it was easy to switch on this opposed to the factory wiring. Overall a great product and I would purchase again.

by:

Overall great product and solves my problem of needing a 7 pole tow harness. Install was painless as the two pin connectors fit directly into the '13 Nissan Frontier OEM connectors if you have the tow package. My only complaint is that the trailer receptacle is not plug and play to my Frontier. The holes do not line up and the wiring harness required me to bend the metal plate under the truck. Not a huge deal, but I bought it thinking it was a direct fit to my truck.

by:

Installation was a snap with the existing factory tow package wiring harness. I fabricated a mounting bracket for the 7-way plug-in and bolted it to the existing bumper next to the hitch. I also installed a 4 way trailer hookup for non-brake trailers. Looks neat, clean and professional. Total time to mount 7-way was less than 15 minutes after fabricating the mounting bracket.

by:

Fits perfect in my 17 frontier but the black and blue pin were crossed, i had to fix it myself, nothing big but if you're not good with your hands...also didn't come with screws to mount on bracket , so i use zip ties for now ,anyway i'll buy from this guys again.

The factory tow package connector on a few of the Nissan Xterras, Frontiers and Pathfinders from 2005 to 2017 had the 12 volt power and the electric brake wire switched. This isnt a consistent problem that occurs on every vehicle, nor is it isolated to a given model year.

by:

The product would have worked perfectly if I know what I needed. I am a DIY guy so I just took a shot at what I needed. Once I got the item, the instructions told me that if my vehicle did not come with an OEM tow package (which it did not, hence the purchase of a hitch), then I would need a relay harness that did not come with this item and to get it I would need to contact the car manufacturer. In my case this was Nissan. Nissan was not sure what I was looking for and I did not know/understand what I needed. I called customer service at etrailer and they told me that I should have purchased part 118266 which has the relays and everything else. I don't know why the instructions of 118267 don't refer the user to the correct part number (118266) if the same company makes the part with the relays. Seems strange to me. I went back to etrailer and ordered the correct one (118266) and trying to work out the return of the incorrect one (118267). So far, etrailer has been great.

by:

Could be a one off fault on the product: the AUX 12V feed and the trailer brake feed were swapped over which caused issues with the brake controller.
I worked it out by testing directly to yeh vehicle plug and working back to the coupler plug

However, according to our fit guide, the Tow Ready part is only the replacement 7-way connector. If you never had a connector installed before, then you will also need a T-Connector installed to connect the 7-way to the vehicle. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118266 if this is the first time installing a 7-way connector on your vehicle. You will also need...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness For 2016 Nissan Frontier With Factory Tow Package
Since all of the Frontiers include the wiring, they may not have the factory tow package on the vehicle. You can easily check this out two ways. Remove the passenger side kick panel and look to see if the harness with the relays is present. If not, then you will need to get a wiring harness like part # C56225. This kit includes the relays needed to activate the tow package on your Frontier. Another way to check is to find the gray connector with the cap on it that is located along the driver...

  • How Good is the Waterproofing on Replacement Wiring Harness # 118267 for a 2010 Nissan Frontier
Replacement Wiring Harness # 118267 for your 2010 Nissan Frontier doesn't really have a gasket at the 7-Way lid. And for something to be considered waterproof it has to be able to be submerged under water for a certain amount of time and not let in any water. No trailer connector can make that claim! What I recommend to safeguard against corrosion from moisture is to use dielectric grease # LT37534 anywhere you have electrical connections. The other option is to use a factory replacement...

  • Upgrading 4-Way to 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2019 Nissan Frontier
Since you already have a 4-way on your 2019 Nissan Frontier adding a 7-way is pretty simple. Using part # 118267 gives you a 7-way but doesn't keep your 4-way. To keep the 4-way with the new 7-way you can use part # HM40975 instead of the connector included with # 118267. If you also need a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN, part # 5535, with the adapter harness # 3050-P.

  • 7-Way Recommendation for a 2007 Nissan Frontier
For your 2007 Nissan Frontier that does not have the factory 7-way at the rear of it you would want the Tow Ready wiring harness part # 118266. This comes with all of the needed harnesses and relays to complete the wiring for the 7-way and make it functional. I attached an install video that shows it being installed in a similar 2008 Frontier as yours. The part # 118267 that you referenced does not come with the relays and harnesses you would need so it would not be the correct par number.

  • Are Pigtails Available from the Tow Ready Part # 118267 for a 2010 Nissan Xterra
The Replacement Wiring Harness # 118267 is actually a piece of a few different wiring combinations for your 2010 Nissan Xterra (like part # 118266 for example). This is a whole wiring harness and unfortunately isn't offered in pigtails so you will need to get the whole kit. On the bright side you will be getting a whole new wiring harness with a brand new 7-Way connector from one of our most reliable wiring manufacturers so you know it will last.

  • Adding a 4- and 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller to a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder with 4-Way Only
Since your 2009 Nissan Pathfinder already has a factory 4-Way you can use # 118267 to install a 7-Way. But to retain the use of a 4-Way you would need to replace the 7-Way that comes with the harness with # HM40950. Or you could use an adapter like you said such as # PK12716. It is not likely that the 7-Way or 7-Way and 4-Way would fit in the factory location but # HM40950 does have a mounting bracket included. For a brake controller I highly recommend a proportional controller over a...
