E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

R16 5th Wheel Roller

Non-Binding R16 Roller

Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Etrailer sent me a one year follow-up email. Since purchasing this I've used it to tow our 11k lb camper about 5k miles. The hitch and slider have worked exactly as they should and I have no complaints.

by: David12/15/2023

Well, I haven't towed with it yet but we'll see how that goes.
I purchased this hitch because I needed to drop the height as much as 6 inches.
My previous hitch was dropped to the lowest setting and still 17 inches high!
This E16 goes down to 14 inches...

Assembly was straight forward and all pieces were present ( even 4 big washers which were not illustrated anywhere in the instructions as to where they went)

The hitch seems well built but the welder needs to be more thorough in cleaning his Slag (got my finger good when I picked up the top plate)

Stickers were falling off everywhere (my heat gun fixed those)

But a couple notable design flaws...

The top cradle for the 5th wheel plate is a triangular shaped arch and the top plate has an axle which is perfectly round. So when the 5th wheel assembly is down in the cradle, there are only two little points of contact instead of the cradle fitting uniformly around the axle rods...we'll see what kind of wear this causes.

Next, the green ring on the indicator rod looked like a 3 year old toddler wiped lipstick on it. (Green paint is supposed to be in the little groove cut in the rod but instead, is smeared all over the end of the rod)
Lastly...
The side plates have a two rows of holes for height adjustment...I have installed the bolts to position the overall height at the lowest possible setting. However, there are two more holes in the tie plate but the casting prevents the sideplates from dropping down even lower. Definitely confused as to what the extra holes are for and disappointed that I can't drop this even lower...
Definitely seems heavy duty, but again, I haven't towed yet, so hopefully the play in the base rails doesn't translate into obnoxious clanking and rattling....
If so, I will definitely be doing another review

by: Patrick 04/18/2024

I have a year of use into this hitch. It rolls surprisingly easy. The hitch is able to be taken apart into two main pieces.

This thing is HEAVY. Even in two parts it's stupid heavy. I don't expect anything less but man, if you are buying a sliding hitch, you better NEED it(shortbox truck).

by: Kory05/24/2018

Successfully installed this hitch even in a RAM Box. I did remove 2" from the handles so I have the proper clearance for the RAM box. That shortened length hasn't changed my ability to unlock the hitch for either function even being 5'-8". I do think this installation method with U-bolts that go around the frame is easier than the 1/2 ton version I installed which pulled knurled bolts through the factory frame holes to hold the support brackets.

by: Billy 03/11/2024

Does what it is supposed to do. I’ve pulled my 5th well 4000 miles with no problems since I installed it. Very happy with the product.
However, Installing it is no easy task. Every truck is slightly different, and Directions are vague but You-Tube videos help. Swivels and various lengths of extensions are necessary and even then getting a torque wrench on the bolts is tricky. Drilling is required as well as a step bit. Final alignment is very important. If you are not mechanically inclined and patient, you might consider getting it professionally installed.

by: Jim06/10/2018

Installed nice no instructions on the right rear front bolt on a 2017 3 quarter ton Ram pickup rear end mounted were they wanted you to put the bolt on the coil suspension Dodge

by: Martin 02/22/2024

My wife and I assembled this 5th wheel hitch in about 40 minutes. It’s very straightforward and could be done just by looking at the picture. Just 9 bolts and 6pins a little grease and you’re done. I used thread lock on the conical allen bolts all the other bolts used self locking nuts. We are in our 70’s so someone younger could probably do it faster.

by: William 10/18/2022

It went together easy. I installed it in my ram 1500 short bed 5.5 bed and it works good.

by: Chris03/02/2024

Excellent product and fantastic customer service. The hitch was easier to install than expected with the prefabricated brackets and installation kit.

by: Scott04/22/2024

Good solid hitch, a little lower in height than anticipated, but works fine.

2021 Ram2500

Geat sturdy well designed. Pretty simple to install, only downside is on the driver side with the fuel tank. If you have a lift at home it's best to use it. Also recommend using a M12 drill and a right angle impact or equivalent to make the job a bit smoother. Very happy with overall product

by: James06/26/2019

I have a short bed truck, and using the Curt 16516 system Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller, will give me the added clearance I will need for tight turns and maneuvering. Curt's instructions were fairly clear, and parts were well defined. These products are extremely well-made.

Once again, etrailer shipped quickly. Their communication and customer service are great. Thank you etrailer team. I am now ready to get my rig on the road.

2021 Ram2500

Seems like a super high quality kit, but I will disagree with the ease of install. The instructions are super vague. It is quite difficult without putting the truck up on a lift and having several specialized tools. I consider myself sort of an average backyard automotive DIYer and I’ll have to take this in to a shop to finish. I think the page should say installation level medium or moderate.

by: Glen 05/01/2024

Great product great customer service. Will make my next rv purchase with etrailer.com only issue is the instructions are not very clear.

by: Russ08/04/2016

Great people, great service and great products. Installation went as smooth as one could wish for with no mistakes thanks to the helpful advice given in the videos. Etrailer will be my only source for my trailer and hitch needs. A special thank you to Katherina.

by: Bryan04/29/2019

While the jury is out on pulling with this 5th wheel hitch, etrailer did a really nice job promptly shipping my order. The unit is exactly what I expected and installed onto my base rails quite nicely. Thanks guys.

by: William12/31/2018

Hitch is well made and went together without a problem.
I like the slide mechanism, works smoothly.
I looked at other hitches and this one seems to have the best features for the price.
Shipping from etrailer was fast even with the holidays.

by: Kent02/26/2017

This is my first hitch. I decided to go this route after finding out the dealership wanted over 1500 to install rails hitch and plug.
Install was not too aweful bad I did the install in about 4 hours of everything. I took my time so nothing would be screwed up. The install videos where awesome and very discriptive.

by: Jay09/11/2019

First of all Etrailer.com shipped the hitch the same day ordered and I recieved it the next day. Outstanding! The hitch installation went well however the directions could be better. Just installed and haven't towed yet. So far very pleased.

by: Kent USN Ret04/10/2015

I ordered on a Monday and got the equipment on Wed. I started the installation Wed after noon. Finished Thur. about 11:00 am. I did all the work myself with a little help from my son on holding the U bolts. I am 75.5 years old and had no trouble with the instructions. Thanks. PS Added the Jeep picture for fun.

by: Ron 02/27/2024

I haven’t installed yet, but looks to be very good quality and good installation instructions

by: Bob 05/18/2023

Bought hitch last spring, put over 3000 miles on it, still works great. A big plus is that you can remove the top half separately. This makes it much easier to install the hitch with 1 person. It rattles a little bit but nothing major. The slide part work great.

by: Robert11/02/2017

Great kit. Bolted together quickly! The boxes being heavy caused holes to be punched into the boxes. This caused a nut to go missing for the hitch release handle.

by: Bill03/10/2023

Curt makes a high-quality product at an affordable price. Tammie at etrailer was extremely helpful in finding alternative rails when they were back ordered. She found alternative rails and that allowed me to get setup for the camping season. I have never been disappointed with etrailer.

Slider hitches are used on short bed trucks because without them there is not enough clearance between the truck cab and the trailer to make tight turns. The 16k hitch part # RP30047 would be a great choice if you have a short bed truck and need a slider hitch or the part # RP30867

  • What Is Needed to be Able to Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer with a Ram Truck with a Ram Box
  • The only way we are aware of that will allow a Ram truck with a Rambox to tow a fifth wheel trailer is if you replace the pin box of the trailer with a Sidewinder. This moves the pivot point up higher on the trailer so that the pin box would not end up hitting the sides of the truck bed rails/Ram box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one. There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2015 Ram 2500 Short Bed
  • Yes, the Curt fifth wheel install kit part # C16427-204 that you referenced is designed to fit your 2015 Ram 2500 with a 6-3/4 foot bed. This kit will not require you to drill the frame of your truck at all either so it would work well for you. I attached an install video for the rail kit as well. Since you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns. For that the Curt Hitch part # C16541 would work well. This hitch has a 20k capacity, an excellent

  • Can a Fifth Wheel Hitch be Used With Weather Guard Toolbox on 2016 Ram 2500?
  • According to my research the Weather Guard 126-5-02 is 20-1/4" from the back of your 2016 Ram 2500's cab to the front of the toolbox though please be sure to measure to verify this. Then, to figure out if you will have the clearance, what you can do is use the attached diagram of the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ram Truck # C16427-204. You will notice with an 8 foot bed on a Dodge Ram 2500 there will be a dimension of 55-7/8" from the front rail (closest to the cab)

  • How To Use PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch On 2021 Ram 2500
  • There are multiple different PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch options. There are some that use a custom install kit, some that mount to OEM pucks, and some that use industry standard rails. If you have the one that uses industry standard rails (ISR) then you can use the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16427-204. I have attached an install video I did below. If you have the prep package then you can use the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter part # RP30154.

  • In order to mount the Valley/Husky 7054 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2021 Ram 2500 without in-bed prep package you'll need a kit such as the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16427-204. I was able to install this kit and if you'd like to see that video, take a look below. If you do have the factory prep package then you'd need an adapter such as the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter part # RP30154. I'm not sure if you were looking to reuse some old above bed rails or not but we don't

  • Recommended Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Mounting Bracket/Rail Kit for 2015 Ram 2500 Short Bed
  • For the 2015 Ram 2500 without the OEM prep package, you'll want to use the Curt # C16427-204 rail/mounting bracket kit for a carbide finish or # C16427-104 for a gloss finish. For the 2015 model year, the # C16426-104 fits the 3500 model only. If you haven't yet decided on a hitch, I'd highly recommend the Curt A series, due to its interlocking jaw that holds the king pin very tightly for great ride quality. The A series slider is available in a 16K version as part # C16521 or a 20K

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch to Fit Under Roll & Lock Bed Cover on 2014 Ram 2500 Short Bed
  • 5th Wheel trailer hitches are height adjustable. You just need to find one that can be adjusted down low enough to fit under the cover on the bed of your 2014 Ram 2500 short bed. Reese Hitch # RP30075 and Reese Hitch # RP30051 are good options since they are height adjustable from 13 to 17 inches. The lowest setting cannot be used since they are slider hitches for short bed trucks but that shouldn't matter with these hitches. You will just need the proper installation kit, # C16427-204. It

  • 5th Wheel Hitch for 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with RamBox and 6-Foot Bed
  • A short bed truck by itself can pose a challenge for 5th wheel towing due to the limited front-to-back clearance between the truck cab and the trailer's overhang. When we add the Rambox feature we also add another complication: reduced side-to-side clearance. Hitch makers like Reese, Curt and B&W discourage use of 5th wheels in such trucks; that said, there are those that have satisfactorily installed 5th wheels anyway. The best solution for the turning clearance problem in such trucks

  • Recommended Base Rails and 5th Wheel Hitch Adjustment for 2020 Ram 2500 4WD
  • For your 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD the hitch you currently use on the highest setting can be used. The Curt E-16 # C16115 you referenced is adjustable from 17 inches tall down to 13-1/4 inches tall, so you will be able to drop it 2 inches on the leg adjustment. This likely will still have the bed rail clearance needed. It is recommended to have 6 inches between the top of the bed rail and the underside of your trailer (when level) for turning clearance and moving up and down hill. For

  • Fifth Wheel Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 2500 with Rambox
  • I have a solution for your 5th wheel towing needs on your 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Rambox. I recommend to start with a fixed fifth wheel like the Curt # C16115 and the Installation Rails that go with this system are # C16427-204 they are custom fit for your truck. This will give us a rigid base to then attach a sidewinder to. You will need a sidewinder because the issue is the bed is more narrow on models that have the Rambox feature. This allows the trailer pivot point to be
