Recommended 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch for 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Towing 35-Ft Shasta Phoenix
Question:
We have a 2015 Chevrolet 2500 HD diesel, 6 1/2foot bed and will be hauling a 35foot Shasta Phoenix w/ Trailair Roto-Flex 5th wheel pin box. Weve been in a seasonal site all summer, but now need to invest a hitch. What would be a good mid-high range hitch for our needs. Were looking for simplicity of hook-ups and well as added security. Weve always owned tag-a-longs and this is our first 5th wheel.

The 35-foot Shasta Phoenix 5th wheels weigh in around 14K (14088-lbs is the GVWR for their 33CK model) so you'll want a hitch rated for at least 16K to provide a good safety margin.
I suggest the Curt E16 dual-jaw slider hitch # 16516 for its double-pivoting head. This will make hitching and unhitching much easier. The hitch uses round slider tubes which tend to bind up less than square tubes and it provides 12-inches of travel for your low-speed maneuvers. This hitch gives you some high-end features at a down-to-earth price.
You can use custom install kit # C16411-204 which will save you time as compared to universal kits. For a wiring harness for the truck bed use # C56000 which is a simple plug-in installation at your bumper-mounted 7-way.
