An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

The product was delwith an open box with contents falling out. Produck itself is perfect and of surpurb quality.

I am pleased with the performance as far preventing trailer weight to affect the overall tow height of the truck. However, it does change the overall ride of truck when it is not loaded or towing a trailer. I am currently looking for other options.

To be honest this is something that we heard with Timbren springs. I noticed that these springs are a heavy-duty spring that are best suited for trucks with slide-in campers or an in-bed salt spreader. Is this what you have? If you are towing quite a bit, then I would recommend considering an air bag system. The air bag system will be in constant contact with the axle which will give a smoother ride. They are going to be a little more expensive then the Timbren springs. The part number that I recommend is part # AL57375. The fit tips for it is that drilling will be needed, it does not fit with the factory Air Suspension system, special tools will be needed, it is compatible with in bed hitches, and it does not fit TRX models. You may also may consider a compressor system like part # AL57375 so that you have access to air on the go.

by:

Easy to install, fits directly into the factory mounts. We occasionally carry a truck camper on our 2014 RAM 1500 and these bump stops support the weight and make for a smoother ride than air lift suspension. When the camper isn't on the truck, the ride is as smooth as with the original factory bumpstops.

2015 Ram 1500

Good product! This solved my "sag" and loss of front end control while towing. Much cheaper than buying a new truck...I did get more negative feedback from road conditions but got rid of the bounce from weight moving off and on the front axle. Picture is from before installation.

by:

I’ve put about five thousand miles of towing on them and they are exactly what they are advertised as. Would and have Recommended them to friends.

2014 Ram 1500

Received item 5 days after ordered. Arrived in original packaging in good condition. Very easy install took me about an hour. Key for me was use of 2x4 for final seating.

by:

Excellent upgrade for 2019 RAMs hauling heavy payload or trailers. Must have rear suspension improvement from OEM bump stops. I've used Timbren on 2013 and 2019 trucks with great results. I will continue to use Timbren on my trucks in the future.

by:
2013 Ram 1500

Easy to install about 15 minutes works great ,stops the rear sag with a trailer, alittle pricy though, but good quality.

by:

These are the way to go. Airbags are nice but I never have to worry about leaking lines or bags. My Ram 1500 lowers two inches with the horse trailer gooseneck. Ill never go back to bags. Thanks Guys

Steven

The timbres suspension is still working great. I have had no suspension or breaking issues. The rear is a little more sturdy than if I had airbags but that’s what I wanted and it’s great not having to worry about air adjustments or leaking bags. Works great for me.

2016 Ram 1500

So far the easiest install I have ever encountered!! Took 15 only because I had to move jack to otherside otherwise in under 10 minutes. I have yet to place trailer on truck, tomorrow is the big test, we'll see how it handles.... huge difference from old one to these, so I expect a huge improvement....

by:

Very satisfied with your product.
Was very EZ to install, appox 20 minutes, and that includes setting my jack up. I've sent 2 pictures. The yellow is original bump stop, black is the new ones. Thanx again

by:

Super easy to install legit just poped out poped in no lift needed just crawled under and 5 mins it was done.

Works great so far ill find out when my 30foot foot campers hooked up but for a 16foot trailer with a rzr and quad up on it it did its job.
Not 5 stars because i think this is a 150 to 175 priced product

by:

Probably the easiest install I have ever done on my 2019 Classic Ram 1500 Warlock. Took less than 10 minutes and outcome is excellent. I can already tell the difference with the Decked tool box I have in my truck.

These work quite nicely if you are carrying a load but when empty the truck rides like a truck. Very ruff ride. I had to switch back to originals because ride was so bad. They are not hard to swap so I swap them for originals when I carry heavy loads.

You mentioned that the springs were giving you a rough ride when installed and I had a few questions that I wanted to ask. When the springs are installed is there an inch to an inch and a half gap from the bottom of the spring to the contact point on the frame? Are you using the springs for a slide-in camper, salt spreader, or with a mounted crane or other aerial device?

Chris

3/28/2022

I used the springs to carry stone. Im not sure if there was a full inch but when I had three people in the back they had a ruff ride. I was in the front and didnt feel it as much. Even when there was no one I noticed when I hit bumps that the back wheels rode ruffer -like a truck-. They swap out fairly easy so I can rotate when needed, not ideal but usable.

I do know that the springs that you have are meant to be used with a trucks that is being used with a slide in camper, salt spreaders, or mounted aerial devices. With the truck carrying stone I would say that is why is works well when loaded however when it is unloaded it will give a stiffer ride. It would be beneficial to look at part # TDR1500DS for your 2016 Ram 1500 4WD. It is rated at 6000 pounds and works with Regular cab models. It would not fit with vehicles that have the factory Air Suspension system.

This is a Severe Service kit and should only be used on vehicles with a slide-in camper, salt spreader, or those with a mounted crane or other aerial device, such as on a tow truck. The # SSR-307-40 SumoSprings product is made from a softer material and would provide better ride quality when installed on your truck.

These definitely beefed up the suspension for my towing. I don’t have the sag that is did before with the stock parts. Have had them for a year now and no complaints from towing a small enclosed trailer to my RV.

Still holding up strong. Keeps me from having any sag while towing. I tow a small enclosed trailer and our RV. Still going strong.

2020 Ram 1500

Product arrived faster than expected and took literally 5 minutes to install. I purchased these for support and stability under load of a 7x14' cargo trailer but have not yet tried this out. 5 stars for delivery and installation.

After a year these have proven to be a great upgrade to the rear suspension of my 2020 RAM 1500. They provide the support and stability needed to haul a 7x14 motorcycle trailer. Ive recently recommended them to a friend with a 18 Raptor and so far are working great for him.

by:

The Timbren is larger and stiffer than the stock suspension cushion. When empty the truck feels normal. It makes my dodge ram 1500 feel more like a three-quarter ton truck when I am towing my travel trailer. There is much less bounce over bridge approaches and less sway. When I loaded the truck bed with mulch the truck rode level rather than having the rear sagging The Timbren was very easy to install I inspected them recently and they appear to be in almost new condition I have recommended it to my friends for towing and carrying heavy loads

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

Tow vehicle: 2018 ram crew 6.5 box 5.7 hemi v8 3.92 rear end max tow 9820 lbs
Trailer: 2018 Cougar 27 RES, tw 830lbs, empty 6500lbs, gvw 8,800 lbs
Equilizer E4 weight distribution hitch
Before installing the Timbren I experienced 5 inches drop even with the E4 hitch. Towing in a 20 mph cross wind was difficult above 55 mph, 18 wheelers sucked me over as they passed. After installing the Timbren I had a 2 inch drop, cross winds are much easier to handle and there's hardly any suck when a truck passes.

I've towed the trailer 1500 miles so far on the Timbren. They are easy to install on the Ram and worth every penny they cost. Thanks Etrailer for once again giving me great advice and saving me lots of money by not buying air bags. These work just as well, are maintainence free and far cheaper than air bags.

A great investment. I keep it inflated at 50lbs and it helps level my truck when I pull my Grand Design 295RL 5th Wheel.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

FAR BETTER IN THE WIND!
24 foot trailer
with eight distribution hitch on a 1500 truck is not bad until it gets windy. I white knuckled a 45 mile drive to the dyno in March with a racecar in 20mph wind. That’s not uncommon. But my truck and trailer didn’t like it.
This product increased the stability by 5 to 10 times.
Highly highly recommend. Super easy to install.
Reduces squat too.

by:

Very easy to install just use a little soap. Will know how well they work as soon as I get to put them under a load

by:

After reading some reviews on how bad ride quality became I was a little hesitant on this purchase. Knowing I had to do something, I pulled the trigger and I am incredibly glad I did. Installation took me literally 10 minutes. I took out original bump stops, installed one side and put a wood block underneath to "press it in" when I lowered the jack. It worked perfectly. I jacked it back up, removed block and repeated on the other side. The ride quality when unloaded is unchanged (except when you go over a really big bump). I have even towed my camper with them in now (7 hours worth) and they're fantastic! I would recommend to anyone!

  • Difference Between TDR1500DQ and TDRTT1500 Timbren Kit for 2013 Ram 1500
The difference is the weight capacity of each. They both fit the 2013 Ram 1500 like what you have, but the part # TDRTT1500 has a 7k lb capacity and the # TDR1500DQ has a capacity of 8,600 lbs. For what you are doing the lighter capacity will be the way to go. It will give you the support you need but won't be nearly as harsh as the 8.6k kit.
