Video Transcript for Curt Wiring - Trailer Connectors - C57100 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Part Number C57100. This is the Curt Trailer Connector with the backup alarm. You can use this unit to replace your OEM connector. It's going to be a multi-function vehicle end connector. It's going to feature a seven-way outlet, as well as four-pull flat outlet with the integrated backup alarm. It's going to contain three LED lights when the reverse function is activated. The unit is going to be constructed of a durable plastic material, so it's very strong and durable, as well as corrosion resistant.

It's going to include the dust capture on the four-way flat connector. Very easy to remove and to place over the connectors. It's stays attached with the tether that's built in to the housing there. That's just going to protect our connection points when it's not in use. Then, you're going to have the spring loaded lid with a nice little finger tab, right there. That's going to cover up the seven-way connector when not in use and protect those connection points.

When you do have your plug plugged into the connector, the cap will rest on top of the plug, and that's designed to secure the connection. It's going to come with your mounting bracket and the necessary hardware to get the unit installed in the bracket. Now, to get this attached to your bumper or your mounting location, it's going to use these two slots up here. That hardware is not included. This unit is going to fit Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes, and Mitsubishi vehicles with a rectangular eight-prong OEM harness that would match up with this one back here. It's very simple. It just plugs into the harness on your vehicle.

Again, that's an eight-prong rectangular plug. You can use the mounting bracket. Just show you how that looks, real quick, with the plugs in place. It's going to fit, just like that. Then, your four-way flat connector has a grooved end that slides in, right there.

This is how it would look on the back of your vehicle. That's going to do it for our review of Part Number C57100. .

Installed easily works great with my 2006 Sprinter. I saw a few that complained about the back up beep not being loud enough, but is better than what I had which was nothing. Just what I needed to replace dealer installed trailer connnector.

Got the part in a timely fashion , had to modify the mount a little due to the extra width of the unit. The added built in backup beeper and LED light made this so. Looks good, works good and I really like it !!!

The item was a little different than the factory connection, but I knew that when I placed the order. The installation went very well'

See what our Experts say about this CURT Trailer Wiring

  • Wiring a 7- and 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 1998 Chevy Truck
The necessary wires to install a multi-tow connector such as # HM11141144 can likely be found above the spare tire on your 1998 Chevy truck. If it is anything like the 1999 models the yellow wire is the left turn and brakes, dark green wire is the right turn and brakes, brown wire is for the taillights, and white is the ground. Often if the loom is cut back, two more wires will be found. The light blue wire provides a lead for a camper shell brake light so you would not need it. The other,...

  • Is the Curt Trailer Connector for Dodge Trucks Designed to Plug into the Factory 7-way Port
The Curt Trailer Connector for Dodge Trucks # C57100 that you referenced will simply plug into the port that you have on your 2006 Dodge Ram with a factory 7-way.

  • Is Curt Trailer Connector with Backup Alarm Compatible with 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have a solution for you. I recommend the Curt Trailer Connector for Ford and GM Trucks - Backup Alarm - 7-Way Blade and 4-Way Flat # C57101. This will plug right into your factory wiring and will give you that same style alarm you are seeking. The Curt Trailer Connector for Dodge Trucks - Backup Alarm - 7-Way RV Style and 4-Way Flat Item # C57100 is only compatible with certain Dodge vehicles.

  • Will the Curt 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector # C57100 Fit on a 1996 Dodge Dakota
Yes, the Curt 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector, # C57100, will work as a replacement for your factory installed 7-way trailer connector without requiring any splicing or cutting. You will simply unhook the rectangular connector from your existing 7-way connector and plug it into the back of the Curt connector. The actual 7-way socket on the Curt connector will be larger than your current 7-way connector, so it comes with its own mounting bracket so you can mount it to your truck.

  • Trailer Brakes and Running Lights Not Working on Trailer Towed by a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500
It sounds like there could be a ground problem and/or a fuse or relay problem. First, you can check the owners manual or the legend on the lid of the power distribution box to find the locations of any fuses/relays related to the tow package wiring to determine if any of them control the trailer running lights and need to be replaced. Back at the connectors, make sure both the trailer side and truck side connectors are clean and corrosion free. Corrosion can also build up around the backs...

  • Will Curt Trailer Connector with Backup Alarm # C57100 Fit 2004 Dodge Durango SLT
The Curt Trailer Connector with Backup Alarm # C57100 that you referenced fits Dodge Ram and Dakota trucks but not your Durango. However, we do offer a universal-fit stand-alone backup alarm from Custer, their part # BK97DB, which mounts under the passenger side taillight as shown in the linked video. You'll need a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the reverse light wire that will activate the alarm when you put the Durango into reverse. You'll also need 2-conductor wire like jacketed...

  • How to Turn Off Back-Up Alarm of Curt C57100 When Not Towing
Once the Curt # C57100 is installed, the alarm will sound every time you put the transmission in reverse, regardless of whether or not you're towing at the time. The only way I can think of to defeat the alarm for when you're not towing would be to install a switch like # PK34308 inline on the wire feeding the reverse lamp circuit to the # C57100. You'd need to peel back the tape or wire loom that covers the factory wiring harness the C57100 plugs into. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500
I was unable to find much about the wires you located. That being said, you will need to test your plugs with something like # PTW2993. This will confirm which port is which function. As we do not have anything that will plug directly into your plugs, the # PK11893-11933 will need to be hardwired to get everything up an running. Due to this, it would be better to go with # PK11893 and # PK11998. This is specifically a hardwire kit so you wouldn't need to cut off the rectangular plug.

  • 7-Way, 4-Way and Backup Alarm Recommendation for 2017 Ram 1500
For the style of round 7-way connector you'd have at the rear of your 2017 Ram 1500 you'd want the part # C57101 instead of the # C57100 that you mentioned.

  • Will Curt Trailer Connector and Backup Alarm for Dodge Trucks Fit a 2002 Dodge Dakota
Curt trailer connector # C57100 will fit your 2002 Dodge Dakota if the 7-Way trailer connector is a factory connector. There should be a rectangular plug that plugs into the back of the 7-Way if it is factory. I have included a picture of the back of # C57100 for you to compare. If the plug that plugs into the back of your 7-Way is round then you would use # C57101.

  • Replacement 7-Way Vehicle-Side Trailer Connector for 1995 Dodge Ram 2500
As long as your 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 has a rectangular plug at the end of the factory wiring harness, I recommend the Pollak Replacement 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket for Dodge # PK11893-11933. This connector will plug into the factory rectangular connector and provide you with a 7-Way vehicle-side socket for the rear of your pickup. I have attached a review video of this connector for you. If the plug on the end of your vehicle's factory wiring isn't a rectangular plug...
